Hello all, excuse my ignorance with this question I am new to driving.

Yesterday evening I parked my car in a space on the road just outside a block of flats, which is permit holders only between 8:30am-11:00pm Mon-Sat. I put a vistor's residents permit in the window which is issued for the estate I was on. I did not park inside the block, because at the time there were no spaces (there are only 5).

This morning I received a ticket and was told my permit was invalid because I was parked in a shared space.

Can anyone explain the rules on this? Was he right to issue a ticket?

Nobody can possibly tell without seeing the ticket (both sides) and exact location (post google streetview)
