Just been down the A449 near Usk today & spotted a laser van at around 300 yards. Dropped from 80 to 60, was in outside lane & was overtaking a lorry.

I know about the guidelines & policies in some areas. I'd just like peoples thoughts on this.

Already got 9 for doing much of the same, with 10 days for the 1st lot to come off. New house, baby & Job. So a little worried.

Am I right in saying that 79 would of been a better speed to be at?

Would you say that they take 10% + 2mph of what the speed is?

So at 80mph - 9mph = 71?

Most forces apply ACPO guidelines, but note, they are just that, Guidelines.

And it's worked out this way.

70mph speed limit.
+
10%

=77mph
+
2mph

=79 mph

so most forces will prosecute you for 79mph and over. That includes doing 79mph. Although some may offer a 'speed awareness course' for 79-80mph...

you just have to wait now for any NIP that may arrive.

If your speedo definately said no more than 80, you may be ok as it probably overrecords by 5-10%, so you may have been only going 73 - 76 mph, and this is within the ACPO guidelines.

Thanks alot guys, I'm hoping your right. I have a GPS in my car & I know it's not accurate, but it does show a different speed. This is about 2mph less.
