Ok so I was driving along a residential road today. Speed limit 30 mph, traveling at approximately 20 MPH (parked cars around and a junction approaching). The road I was traveling on continues straight with no junctions. To the left and right are roads both marked with a STOP sign and line. Of course you naturally slow down when you see such a junction crossing your road.
Imagine my disbelief then as I approached the junction to see a car drive straight over the stop sign and stop inches from my front drivers side wing. The driver then had the cheek to call me a C*NT and all manner of words under the sun. I pointed out to him it ws a stop sign and he lost his rag. We then started trading swear words with each other for a few seconds before I eventually left.
Can others just reassure me that I was in the right (road positioning wise). I was traveling within (and much lower than) the speed limit, taking full account of the junction and proceeding with caution. The other drivers speeds across and comes inches to hitting me. I don't know what more I could have done.
Thanks

You don't seem to have done anything wrong. He was under a duty to stop behind the stop line.

You had right of way - he was facing a Stop Sign.

Not only that, you avoided a collision. The best way to deal with idiots on the road!

Unfortunately some people legally entitled to drive are mentally unstable, and some people are out there who have no legal right to drive at all. You may just have met someone in one of those categories.

He may be suffering from the same sort of driver dyslexia that makes some people read "BUS STOP" as "CAR PARK".

Cheers for the help guys. I'm just disappointed I lost my cool with this idiot! Thing was, I avoided eye contact with him and just drove around his car (now 2/3 across the road). He called me a C*NT and thats where it began!
Oh well, we live and learn.
