Full Version: M1 gantry cameras (Nottingham stretch)?

Now they've finally completed the road works on this stretch (enforced with specs during) - I will say the widening and surfacing seems to be making a positive difference for general speeds - may just be easy August traffic volume though.

My question relates to the overhead Gantrys - All carry the speed cam logo - They look similar to the M42 HADECS style gantrys, with electronic speed limits avail for flash up.

Are there any cameras there though??? I couldn't see a single one today doing that stretch both ways, although looks like mounting plates are in place if they wanted to fit them.

I'm aware of debate over whether SPECS remained -

seems SPECS have all gone - or at least I blinking hope so - did a decent speed to leeds and back today.

Anyone have any further info on this stretch please?

Thanks

There are no cameras there right now. The signs suggest things are going to change in the future.

Thanks Peter for your reply - much appreciated - that's my concern if they do install - especially if it has the 'teething' issues that the M42 had - ie. drop to 40mph on empty carriageway, then nsl a mile later with no obvious congestion anywhere within 132 miles....

Even though the M42 stretch now has umpteen of the buggers, and I know people have been done when a lower var. speed is activated, but to date I've been through them frequently at just under 90 when no signs are illuminated, and nothing so far...

Best regards

They have now installed cameras on many of the gantries and the instrument allowing them to be used came live on 18th April apparently. No idea whether they are only live when there is a lowered restriction or all the time.

The cameras are now live on the M! junctions 26 to 29! They went live today.

They are variable speed on the gantry's and can be seen behind'ish the speed signs on the gantrys. If you look closely they are in white boxes on the gantrys on both sides Northbound and Southbound.
All speed signs are surrounded by a red circle and are law to obey when they come on. Cameras will phot you if you go over these speeds when they are on - a NIP and 3 points!!!!

I am told - from a reliable source - that the cameras are on all the time on this stretch and will photograph you if you do over 70mph as well.

Motorists beware.

But are unlikely to trigger an NIP until well over 70mph.

Just get a GPS camera (fixed camera) detector. It'll tell you which gantries have cameras and which don't. Get a radar detector if you want to know which ones are actually active and will snap you. Never listen to "reliable" sources as the only reliablity they have is that they are unreliable.

Or just avoid paranoia and go at the speed limit!

Why do they need a variable zone on the M1 though? I've never (apart from every fricking year having SPECS at diffrent parts...) seen congestion really
