Full Version: NIP - Took 46days!

Hi All,

1st post here, so appologies if this topic has been covered before.

I was driving a hire car on business last month when caught speeding (37mph in a 30 zone).
The offence date was Dec 10th.
Today I received an NIP in the post here at the office.
The NIP is dated Jan 25th. (46days after offence)

I read that it must be served within 14days.
I assume the delay is down to admin at the hire car company.

My question is - Can I contest the ticket on the grounds of this 14day technicality?

Any advice / words of wisdom gratefully received!!

Cheers,
Don.

Probably not. The first NIP has to be served on the registered keeper within 14 days, subsequent NIPs have no time limit. So unless you have evidence the first NIP was served outside of 14 days, you will not be able to use this as a defence.

Don. Is the NIP in your name or the company's name?

It's in my name, c/o the company's address...

That implies the leasing company scenario.
