The Wirral speed camera partnership has been running a survey across hundreds of roads in the area over the past few months.
It is to measure the traffic count and also speeds of vehicles using the roads.
Does anyone know if the results will be made available? The speed camera partnership send standard replies. The same as when asked why they didn't use speed cameras outside schools at various times. A few weeks ago they did have about 30 children and police with PCSOs operating the LTI2020 devices. It would be funny if someone was caught speeding by a 12 year old. The area is well signed to state speed cameras and police checks are being made on speed, but there are so many signs people ignore them.
The only result I have seen so far is on the A41 by what used to be Cammell lairds. Because people were speeding on the side of the dual carriageway that wasn't covered by GATSO, they turned it around!!!!! Now everyone just speeds on the other side once again - so they are nothing to do with safety. A speed camera van that parks up in New chester Road now gets cars driving from by the New Ferry Bypass, so they just turned it around.
It didn't take thousands for a survey to show that unless you put a GATSO on each side of a road, people will speed. After the speed camera partnership obsession with signs stating how many people have been involved in accidents (incorrect figures based on their own results and from the police) and lowering speed limits, it hasn't worked. The signs distract people causing accidents and have done so recently on the A41 which had the limit reduced from 70 to 50mph after a few drunk drivers crashed years ago. The most recent crash was on the new safe A41 with it's flashing LED signs, large accident signs and 50 signs! It's not the road that is unsafe, it's the drivers using it. Some appear careless and would probably still crash if the limit was 30.
By me a long main road had speed humps fitted. There was a head-on crash because people drive down the middle of the road to avoid them. On this occasion both women decided not to move over or slow down!!!
There is also STILL a problem with marked police cars and vans that are speeding around Wirral, people not on their way to logged incidents without blue lights and sirens. Maybe the speed camera partnership should look at that. Class 3 police drivers putting pedestrians and other road users at risk due to their poor standards of driving and excessive speed.
