NIP Details and Circumstances
What is the name of the Constabulary? -
Date of the offence: - August 2008
Date of the NIP: - 46 days after the offence
Date you received the NIP: - 47 days after the offence
Location of offence (exact location as it appears on the NIP: important): - A303 (E/BOUND), MERE BYPASS (SITE AAE2)
Was the NIP addressed to you? - Yes
Was the NIP sent by first class post, second class or recorded delivery? - Not known
If your are not the Registered Keeper, what is your relationship to the vehicle? -
How many current points do you have? - 0
Provide a description of events (if you know what happened) telling us as much about the incident as possible - some things that may seem trivial to you may be important, so don't leave anything out. Please do not post personal details for obvious reasons - I was traveling back to London on the 24/08/08 along the A303, I rounded a corner and there was a van parked on the grass verge by a junction on the left. I didn't even think it could be a camera van until later on when i arrived home. Having recently moved house in august I didn't change the address on the V5 until the end of August when i re-taxed the car. I received all post that had been delivered to my old house two weeks ago and there was no NIP. Today I received a NIP for the alleged offence and the postage date is 1 month and 9 days after the date of offence. I logged onto to view the evidence and found that there was a nip posted on the 28/08/09 which I have never received and then a new driver was nominated on the 9/10/08 and thats why i received it today. I have looked on the V5 received with my new address and the date is the 12/09/08.

NIP Wizard Responses
These were the responses used by the Wizard to arrive at its recommendation:
Have you received a NIP? - Yes
Are you the Registered Keeper of the vehicle concerned (is your name and address on the V5/V5C)? - Yes
Did the first NIP arrive within 14 days? - Unsure
Although you are the Registered Keeper, were you also the keeper of the vehicle concerned (the person normally responsible for it) at the time of the alleged offence? - Yes
Were you driving? - Yes
Which country did the alleged offence take place in? - England

NIP Wizard Recommendation
Based on these responses the Wizard suggested that this course of action should be considered:
  • The law requires you to provide the information requested in the Section 172 notice within the 28 day period, naming yourself as the driver. If you are considering obtaining formal legal advice, do so before returning the notice.

You should note that there is nothing to be gained by responding any earlier than you have to at any stage of the process. You are likely to receive a Conditional Offer of a Fixed Penalty (COFP) and further reminder(s). If you want to continue the fight, you should ignore all correspondence from the police until you receive a summons. You need to understand from the outset that while you will receive much help and support from members on the forums, you will need to put time and effort into fighting your case and ultimately be prepared to stand up in court to defend yourself.

The Rookie
So they sent the NIP to your old address (but the one legally for the RK) and then later sent to you at your new RK address, sounds reasonable and normal to me.

Worth copying and washing and posting the photo (if it won't let you copy it, try using print screen!) so we can check the quality of the 'ping'.

Thanks for your reply simon, I was starting to think it was reasonable. Heres the pics you asked for

EDIT= thanks for the reply i have removed the pics now. Cheers
The Rookie
Wash meant your reg number and the time and data block, leaving on range and speed!

The ping looks reasonable I'm afraid, I think the tailgating Clio could be lucky!
