Hello,

I live in an area where off street parking is the only available means. That said as the roads are somewhat narrow every individual parks with the wheels on the curb to allow rubbish trucks etc to get past. We have lived in this address for three years and today receieved a PCN for parking on the kerb! in the attached image you can see that we are actually parked significantly over a double yellow, however the parking charge did not state this as the contravention. Not much of an excuse but i am an NHS nurse who had finished a long shift and it was the only available spot that didnt require a long walk home.

Funds are a bit tight as we have a baby on the way and this is a big unexpected cost, i was wondering what advice any of you awesome peopl could offer or is it better just to suck it up and pay the reduced money and not risk the 130. Thanks for your help.

here - as were on a double yellow there was a choice of contravention. But pavement parking looks to be the norm around there as you say so you have a chance, and also as a key worker the council may look kindly on you.

Their not using an 01 due to the DYLs is irrelevant here, the 62 code is valid.

You should be re-offered the discount £65 so don't worry about the £130 for now. If you can attach evidence of your key worker status, your shift worked prior to leaving work - state the hospital and the travelling time it took for you to get back, it might help. This will demonstrate that all the normally available spaces were taken due to lockdown impacts and you were forced to park there out of necessity - also include that you are xx weeks pregnant to add to the need to avoid a lengthy walk at xx.xx in the early hours. You will know the local arrangements such as permits, pay by phone and free on street parking possibilities.

I would focus on the unusually high number of parked vehicles reducing the spaces normally available, your lateness of arrival and mention that you fully intended to move the car after you had had some sleep but the CEO got there first.

You are ultimately hoping for some discretion from the individual officer dealing with the challenge in the absence of any official policy in the LA to consider the impacts of COVID that have removed the normal patterns of parking and driving. You need an LA officer capable of rational deduction and empathy. So the best of luck.
