Full Version: Speeding fines or other offences but V5C not registered with current address

So a letter through the post on Thursday with 5 PCNs and a LBC from a PPC made me realise that I hadn't updated my address on my V5C. I'm now fretting that there are other things flying around out there that I'm unaware of such as speeding fines etc. Would I know by now? If a shitty PPC can trace me then surely authorities can? I feel sick with worry that there are other things that I don't know about and that there's potentially CCJs stacking up against my name.

The police seem to manage to trace the keeper quite well, for instance by using the insurance database. Can you not go back to the address on the V5C and check for post there? You will not get a CCJ for traffic matters, it is a civil remedy, not criminal.
Obviously you need to update your address, you need to get tax reminders and anyway it is an offence not to have an address at which you can be contacted.

I can't find the V5C so I have to order a new one by post first thing on Monday.

So I should be safe with regards to speeding tickets and the likes?

He won’t get a CCJ for a criminal matter either.

Erm, isn’t that what he said?

At the OP, no you won’t be safe, what on earth gave you that idea? You could already have piintsbfor failing to furnish drivers details and you may be getting a further steps notice, no one can say you’re safe.

Depends on how you read it.

Is there a way to find out whether I've got any fines/point against me?
Lodesman
Yes, have a look at

https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

and fill out your details.

I have no idea about fines but the above is suitable for points/disqualifications.
casablanca19
Thank you, I've done that and it says I have 0 points. If I had got a speeding ticket, would I have points on there even though my V5 hasn't been registered at my address? Surely they can link my registration plate with my driving license quite easily?
Lodesman
I have no idea but, as the web entry criteria are Licence number, Nat Ins Number and postcode, if the entries don't match I doubt if you would be able to access the page.

When you checked, which postcode did you use, the old one or your new one ?

Quite easily? The V5C says "John Smith". How many John Smiths do you imagine there are on the driving licence database?
casablanca19
Oh yes, that was a bit stupid of me. So is there another way I can find out about speeding fines? Do I call the police stations?

I used my current postcode.
Lodesman
Which postcode is your licence attached to, the old one or the new one ?

Yous say you obtained a zero points reply from the website using your latest postcode - this implies that the postcode you used was connected to your licence.

I assume that the two (your licence and the V5C) are not connected. One (the website) refers to your licence and the other (keeper) to the V5C.
casablanca19
My driving license connected to my current postcode whereas the V5C is connected to my old postcode. Are you saying that I should try the database using my old postcode?
Glacier2
And have you fixed the situation with the V5?

This is how people get done for Failure to Furnish making the assumption that changing their licence changes everything.

No, you should use the postcode shown on your licence.

If you had been convicted, points would have shown on your licence. The V5C is irrelevant at this stage.
casablanca19
Yes, I've sorted it now. So am I safe to assume that all is ok at this point?
The Rookie
No, you can't make that assumption, it's likely it is, but no assumption that it is!
