The 40mph area starts at least 800 yards before the road goes from dual carriageway to single -and at the time of the alleged offence (between 18.00 and 19.00) the traffic is light and the roadworkers have packed up for the day. If I was doing the alleged speed (c70mph) it would have been on the dual carriageway before dropping speed in the single carriageway section I do not recall traveling at this speed. The coned (40 mph) area of the roadworks stretches for at least a mile and probably more.

I note a no. of posts about this set of roadworks. Does the inexact locus argument stack?
