I got a PPC giving me a charge of 70 pound, i did not know that i wouldn't have to pay the charge at the time but i sent a letter reply stating that i was the driver at the time...

Where does this leave me? Will i need to pay because of this mistake?

Don't worry, you should be OK. Proving who the driver was is only their first hurdle. They also have to prove they or the landowner have actually suffered a material loss. Could you please tell the name of the parking company as that would help.

Please try not to take these people too seriously. They are not the police or the council, and they have no more right than you or I to demand money off people.

You might get more hassle than normal because they'll see you as a hooked fish.

The advice is still to ignore them. See sticky area of forum to see the typical letter chains.

Very few of them ever take a chance of court - because they have a habit of losing. Which company ?

It was a free 90 minute parking at an Aldi store, the car park was completely empty and i stayed for 105 minutes, 15 minutes over. Parkingeye

Unless you replied saying "yes I was driving and I accept that this is a completely fair charge and in no way a contractual penalty", it's unlikely that you have significantly damaged your defence in the very unlikely event that they took you to court. They may put you down as someone who takes them seriously and will be more easily bullied into paying up, and send you a few extra threatograms as a result, but otherwise it changes little. Ignore them from now on.

My reply was that i was the driving and extremely sorry for overstaying my time as i was using the stores facilities. I also stated that i couldnt afford the charge as i am a student and what student do you know who has a spare 70 quid in his pocket?

If you want to write to somebody, then direct you anger at Aldi, Tell them you will not darken their doorstep again until they get rid of Parking Eye

You could always turn up at the checkout with a full trolley and wait until the items are well-distributed between trolley, belt and packing area.

Suddenly leave, explaining that your 90 minutes are up and you'll get a ticket. I'm sure that, over a few beers in the Students Union you can come up with some entertaining variations.

You have hit the nail on the head. Enough people are fooled into paying by their very dubious paperwork for them to not to bother with court.
