the easiest thing is just to paste below what I have written on my objection to Camden's PCN. Do I have a hope?:
----- I parked my scooter as usual in the bay in Endell St on Friday 16th December. At that time the bay was nearly full, and there was no board announcing a suspension of the bay. I didn't ride the bike home on the Friday eve, as I had been to a Christmas party. On coming to get my bike on Monday 18th, I find that a board had been put up announcing the suspension of the bay from Monday to Friday, and I have been given a £50/100 fine. Several bikes in the bay all had penalty charges, so clearly it was NOT an isolated mistake on my part. (Payday for parking attendants!) Is it correct to pick a bay full of legally parked bikes, stick up a notice announcing the suspension of the bay, and then slap tickets on all the bikes parked there? Not even remotely fair! I quote Camden's own website: "Camden Council puts up Advance Warning signs to indicate a suspension, with bright yellow hoods with the ˜no waiting no loading" logo placed over adjacent sign plates or pay-and-display meters." How much advance warning do you consider fair? I am also puzzled as to why the PCN has a section for the Tax disc Number, in which the attendant has just filled in the word "NO". I have a tax disc, on display in a standard place for a scooter. The attendant has also failed to fill in a colour for the bike, it just says "Unspecified". Was he too busy running around sticking PCNs on all the bikes to actually fill in the form correctly? ----- |

Certainly wasn't 5 days. They might have put it up over the weekend, or early Monday.
Does anyone know if the fact the the attendant didn't fill in a tax disk number or vehicle colour on his form has any bearing? cheers! |

Thankyou.
I will see what response I get to my online objection (via Camden's website). I suspect they will tell me I have to check the bay every day, which means no more leaving the bike in town on Friday night (pub after work) and riding home on it on Monday. What are you supposed to do? Drink and drive? I'd be a bit less angry if the council provided anywhere near enough parking bays for motobikes in the first place, but even since the congestion charge came in, there's still pitifully low provision. Arrive in town after 9am, and you can be riding around for 20 minutes trying to find a space. Talk about discouraging driving in central London - they should think about making the alternatives a bit more feasible! I expect parking meters for car bays are too lucrative for them to want to turn any of them into bike parking. This post has been edited by padster: Tue, 19 Dec 2006 - 17:19 |

Success! PCN revoked as they weren't satisfied that they have enough evidence to prove that bay was properly signed as suspended. Case closed. Hurrah!
