Hi
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue; I've received a Parking Charge Notice from Parking Eye, stating I was in a certain Aldi car park for over three hours. I was not, I know I was at home all afternoon with my car parked on the street. In addition to this I have NEVER EVER been to the Aldi, or car park stated in the notice. How ever, on the notice the is an image of a car almost exactly like mine with the number plates highlighted. The photos are black & white and darkened with the plates highlighted, so could have easily been Photoshoped. Because of this I am also unable to make out any distinguishing features on the car (stickers in back window etc) to confirm it is actually mine (which it isn't). If it is a photoshop scam, it seems extremely illaborate to have an image of a car of my description in a car park under their ownership, match them with my plate details, then blend them together and send the charge to me. Could this mean my vehicle has been cloned? And if so, how do I go about it without having to falsely admit my presence at said car park to Parking Eye? (as I have read a lot of stories of people appealing and involved in a very lengthy, costly process even when innocent, just for admitting ownership through Parking Eye's system) The other thing I should add is that I have only just found these letters. They had been going to my parents address (as that is where the car must still be registered to), and am now on my 3rd notice and over a month since the 1st one. Any help on this, or any info from people in the same situation would be hugely appreciated! As i cannot find any other example of duplicated vehicle plates on parking tickets anywhere online. Many Thanks! |

No it's not a 'photoshop scam' - ParkingEye issue thousands of court claims so this needs resolving.
This sounds like it could be a possible clone so it should be reported to the police immediately - you'll need a crime reference number to provide to PE. -------------------- RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver

Report the suspected clone to the police
Tell ParkingEye that the car was not there, you've reported the clone to the police and they must keep the photographs safe Send the message as an email, not an online appeal |

...had been going to my parents address (as that is where the car must still be registered to), and am now on my 3rd notice and over a month since the 1st one. This in itself is not an issue as long as the post is checked in a timely fashion (it appears not). You may something 'important' like a speeding NIP. Get it updated to your current address. -------------------- RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver

It's either a cloned plate, as suggested, or the ANPR camera is malfunctioning, or a bit of dirt on the number plate causing a misread. The car looking the same is easily explainable as a dealer would licence several cars together and the numbers would be almost the same. single digit error would identify you and not the correct car.
Can you actually read the number plates on the photos? or just the number that the computer guessed at? |

Thanks for your advise all! I'll get my Log book off to DVLA for the address change, then report to police. Then take it from there with the police report number. Many thanks!!!!

Yes, you can see the plate clearly, although it is heavily highlighted from the rest of the image. |

That is normal as its not CCTV but ANPR and focuses on the numberplate.

A 'repeated' misread could also be possible. ANPR isn't perfect.
Both the front and rear plates are normally scanned. -------------------- RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver

Bit of dirt then 0 becomes 8 L becomes I.
Is it front and back plates scanned? |

Hi
Thanks again for all your advise so far. I had my address changed to my current one straight away with the DVLA. I then as advised tried to report the car cloning to the police, in order to get a crime reference number to help my case when finally contacting Parking Eye. Over the phone (the 101 number) the police advised that I cannot report this without attending a police station and an officer inspecting my car. Off I went to the local station and after a few hours waiting the person on the desk said all she would do with this is to ring 101, as no one needs to check my car. So I said fine, I'll wait (as I thought she might have more success this time). When the lady came back from making the phone call she said there is nothing we can do, we cannot report this as a clonning and you need to take up the issue with Parking Eye. I am now on my final notice but at my 'current/correct' DVLA address. I am very very warey of logging on to the Parking Eye site to deal with this, as I have read from a lot of people that it can count as admission, and it is a long road from there. The same people advise that just ignoring them is the best way for completely made-up scams of this nature. These photo's of my alleged car in this car park are completely fake, and I have NEVER been to the place that is stated on the ticket. The whole issue is absolute rubbish and I do not want to give them a single penny, but the letters are really begining to worry me. If the images weren't so 'dimmed' around the number plates I would be able to make out detail in the car to prove it is not mine (sticker in rear window etc), so is there a way I can demand to view these images in a higher resolution with plate highlighting removed? If there is some kind of appeal/rejection of claim template I could use, I would be much more confident to log onto my case on the Parking Eye site to view the evidence and deffend myself against this ridiculous scam that I have had NOTHING to do with. Thank you very much in advance for any advice on this matter. |

That stupid advice originated on the Martin Lewis website - who should know better Just tell ParkingEye that the car has never visited the location and you have reported the suspected clone to the police If you don't, and ParkingEye issues a claim, a judge will want to know why you made ParkingEye waste their time and money instead of telling them immediately If he thinks you've been unreasonable, you can be held liable for all the costs |

Firstly, as stated, I tried on two occasions to report this to the police but they would not accept the report, so I therefore have no crime reference number if they ask me to prove the report. Surely this would go against me if things went further?? Secondly, surely they have been unreasonable and wasted 'my' time as I have done absolutely nothing at all to deserve these alligations. Can I 'really' be held accountable for costs in this scam/mistake that has nothing to do with me?? Thank you This post has been edited by Ginger248: Thu, 18 Oct 2018 - 10:55 |

You DID REPORT IT
They failed to recordit Thats a difference! You know exactly when and where. Civil court is balance of probablilies. You can use this forum post, plus your own notes etc all to back up where you were and when and the LIKELY EXPLANATION for that being you reporting it Yes, of coruse you can. You would not have been told otherwise, otherwise So, do as told or dont. Your choice. |

Thanks for your reply I still find it crazy that I have had to go through this and could be accountable for resource charges for simply going on a bike ride and leaving my car at home on the day in question, never mind having NEVER been to the location stated. Anyhow, I have taken your advice and appealed. I hope this will finally be the end of it as I am not willing to give them one penny, they've already had too much of my time. Thanks again for all advice so far. This forum has been a great sounding board |

A friend went through very similar circumstances and reported it to the Police, however, he had to report it to a different department.
I`ll try and found out where he made contact. |

Have you made notes as told?
You need them. Contemperaneous notes, ideally witnessed, make GREAT evidence in court. |

Good advice from above. You HAVE written or emailed Parking Eye to tell them, haven't you? What reply have they responded with? This post has been edited by thevaliant: Fri, 19 Oct 2018 - 10:28 |

Yes, I have now written and told them that neither I (in my lfetime) or the vehicle (whilst uner my ownership) have EVER been to the location in question. I have also told them I have reported a possible cloning to the police. No reply yet, just receipt of appeal. Will update wne a reply comes through. Thank you. Similar case here, where I stepped in just before a court hearing to help this victim turn her case around, that should never have got that far:
http://parking-prankster.blogspot.com/2017...2-years-of.html The woman was sent on a wild goose chase to try to get a CRIME NUMBER from the Police, but they don't give CRIME numbers for this because there is no crime against you. Go get an INCIDENT number, it's something the Police must give you for this report. Provide that to PE and ask them for the RAW IMAGES from their cameras (before the images were 'tidied up' - i.e. altered to look pretty - by PE) as you want to scrutinise the actual photos/details/badges on the numberplates and also want to check if PE themselves have simply misread the VRN/cleaned it up with a wrong assumption on one wrong digit. As well as sending this using PE's appeals page, also supply the same request and info to their DATA PROTECTION OFFICER on their (easy to find) online privacy/data concern submission form and head it up SUBJECT ACCESS REQUEST AND DATA ERASURE NOTICE and explain the error and demand your wrongly-harvested data is erased immediately. Should be fairly simple. You should also alert he DVLA to the issue so they can mark your data file to show a misread or possible cloned plate, and to contact you BEFORE disclosing your VRN data in future to any parking firm, who clearly cannot be trusted with it, or are assuming a cloned car is yours, and this makes you vulnerable to scams. As I say, all fairly simple to resolve a data processing error. The link to the Prankster's report of the case rescued just in time (she was about to lose and the Judge had been siding with the parking firm at the first hearing and initially awarded THEM £75 in costs!) is a cautionary tale about how not to do it, and not to flail around chasing your tail for a crime number just because a scammer PPC firm tells you that you need something you do not need (and can't get).
