As the title suggests, I was out today and I was pulled over for doing 57 in a 40 zone. I was overtaking a car who was matching my speed and not letting me pass, and I was gunned, and pulled over by an unmarked car. Obviously I’ve not had any more correspondence yet, I’m just waiting. Just wondering if anybody can speculate on the outcome. Going out of my mind tbh over one mistake. It was West Mercia police of that helps anybody. And it was my first offence

No reason to believe a fixed penalty won't be offered unless you are on 9+ points currently.

Yeah this is what I was hoping for. I have a clean license at the moment. It was just a moment of madness. I was only speeding up because I was overtaking and the car next to me wasn’t having any of it once I’d got into position. I’ll rejoice at three points and a fine. Just having no experience with this whole thing gets me worried. I kind of assume unless the police absolutely have to go to court they probably won’t. What’s the point paying court costs when you can cut that out and come straight at the person with the fine. I know I’m in the wrong and willing to pay for that. I just don’t want a small decision to make such a huge impact on my life

Rest assured, absent anything that makes the offence much worse than just 57 in a 40 or you being on nine points it will be a fixed penalty you are offered. They are offered for upto 65 in a 40 so you are a way off the cut off as well.

It wasn't too far from a roundabout which made things slightly worse as the officer was stating I should have been slowing down much faster than I had done for the roundabout. I don't know if this is something they consider, the slip he's given to me says something like 57mph @400 meters. No idea what that means. If it is three points and a fine, when your license is taken to add the points, are you unable to drive until it's returned?

It's not taken, you must send it. But it remains valid and you can still drive.

It means your speed was measured at 57mph at a distance of 400m from the device used to measure your speed.
