Hi, iv'e received an NIP stating i was doing 37in a 30 zone. At the top of the letter it says it was observed by a 'Manned' camera, but at the junction of the offence is a yellow box camera and the photos seem to be taken from a fairly high elevation. Is there any chance i can appeal this or would it just be classed as a typo?

It doesn’t change the fact you were speeding. Unfortunately, such ‘errors’ do not assist.

That error on a NIP does not invalidate it, so does not help you.

Perhaps you can provide a link to the location and a redacted photo? Probably a vantage point somewhere, with line of sight they can detect from some distance.

Although in theory you could get a speeding ticket from a yellow box camera in practice it is vanishingly unlikely as they are simple CCTV cameras and not designed for speeding.

Guess if they really wanted to, by timing the time taken to get from one end of the box to the other (the two lines being a known, fixed distance apart). Of course, the effort this would take is not likely to be worth the "reward" imo

Oh really ...... none of the yellow box cameras I have installed have been type approved for speed measurement. And YBJ is council, speed is police. Theres no appetite for a council to spend its money on something which would create work which doesn't make them money.

I took the OP to mean a camera which was a yellow box, not a camera on a yellow box junction, and the query was that such a camera would not be 'manned'. It does not really matter, the question is whether or not valid evidence is available that the vehicle was speeding.

Logician, you are correct. My apologies to the group for my misleading terminology.
Thanks for the information group, looks like three points are coming my way.
