NIP Details and Circumstances
What is the name of the Constabulary? - Date of the offence: - January 2018 Date of the NIP: - 5 days after the offence Date you received the NIP: - 6 days after the offence Location of offence (exact location as it appears on the NIP: important): - At M3 Junction 3-4, CAMBERLEY, UNITED KINGDON Was the NIP addressed to you? - Yes Was the NIP sent by first class post, second class or recorded delivery? - Not known If your are not the Registered Keeper, what is your relationship to the vehicle? - How many current points do you have? - 0 Provide a description of events (if you know what happened) telling us as much about the incident as possible - some things that may seem trivial to you may be important, so don't leave anything out. Please do not post personal details for obvious reasons - The M3 was completely empty and I was not paying attention to the speed. A camera flashed which caused me to brake suddenly. NIP Wizard Responses These were the responses used by the Wizard to arrive at its recommendation: Have you received a NIP? - Yes Are you the Registered Keeper of the vehicle concerned (is your name and address on the V5/V5C)? - Yes Did the first NIP arrive within 14 days? - Yes Although you are the Registered Keeper, were you also the keeper of the vehicle concerned (the person normally responsible for it) at the time of the alleged offence? - Yes Were you driving? - Yes Which country did the alleged offence take place in? - England NIP Wizard Recommendation Based on these responses the Wizard suggested that this course of action should be considered:
Generated by the PePiPoo NIP Wizard v3.3.2: Tue, 09 Jan 2018 23:41:27 +0000 Speed was 97. Speed limit 70. |

Thanks
How long a ban if any? How big a fine? Where will I have to go to court? Will I have to go to Surrey? Thanks for your help. |

A short ban is possible but very unlikely, most likely you will get 5 or 6 points. The fine will be one week's net income, less 33% for a guilty plea, plus 10% surcharge (minimum £30), plus costs of £85. It will be dealt with by a court (Fixed penalty only up to 95 in a 70 limit) but you can plead guilty by post and not have to attend. A not guilty plea would mean you had to go to court in Surrey.

I was flashed by a motorway speed camera on the 3rd January. I responded to the NIP within 28 days.
Only now do I have the court papers through a little longer than six months later. Where do I find the relevant date that the papers were "laid before the court"? Thanks M |

It’s unlikely that they were. You’re likely to have a written charge and single justice procedure notice. What date does it say the charge was issued on?

You don’t, what you need is the date of issue of the written charge which will be on it.

Yes, I have a single justice procedure notice.
Charge date: 02/07/2018. So just in time for them - right? M. |
