Hi there. This is the first time I've ever posted on a forum so I hope I've done it correctly! Really hoping someone can give me some advice on my issue with Havering Council.
I live on the outward edge of a bend in the road. There is a long, continuous parking bay that runs along the road/path from outside my house to about 2 houses down. You could easily fit 4 cars one after the other long it. You park with two wheels in the bay and 2 in the road. Several feet from the end of the bay my neighbour, next door but one, has had a drop kerb put in. I understand it's completely their right to do so but it's causing me a nightmare. My neighbours were great and we all parked in our own 'space.' Mine is at the start of the bay as it's directly outside my house. Since my neighbour had his drop kerb it's completely skewed the bay. There is space for one small car before the drop kerb and now only room for 2 cars after it. This is now meaning there is no room for me to now fit on the bay. There are two tiny bays on the opposite side of the street which are always occupied by the residents on that side and I'm left with no where to park. - The council refuse to extend the bay an extra few feet to compensate for the space taken by the drop kerb so I can carry on parking close to my home. - There is a tiny sign on a lamppost that says 'park in bays'.... That is all, no other signs. No yellow lines, no 'park in bays ONLY' and no other text on the sign. It also faces away from you so anyone coming down the road from my end won't see it. It is the only sign down the street. - I have a 12 month old baby (not walking yet!) I'm 7 months pregnant. I suffer with severe pelvic girdle issues that I need medication and physio to manage and walking is insanely painful. - I drove home yesterday crying in pain and just needed to get myself and my son Indoors. There was NO WHERE to park. I couldn't walk as it is let alone carry by boy from streets and streets away. I didn't know what to do. I parked in line with the bay in fact half my car was in the bay. Obviously I got a ticket under contravention 62. - The path is extremely wide I was presenting no danger to pedestrians and I was inline with the other vehicles. - Before the bay begins I have my own drop kerb but we don't have a drive just gates to our back garden that's blocked off (it's an unusual set up. I can't open the gates to park in my back garden as there is a large drop of about a metre and it's unsafe.) I've been told I cannot park on my own drop kerb as it's right on the bend and could be a danger. - This problem is getting serious for me I know I have no right to park outside my own home but I just don't know what to do. Now there is less space my neighbours have just turned ruthless and take wherever is available. I don't blame them but I'm left without anywhere close to park and I'm the only one getting slapped with tickets as I'm on the end. - there are no yellow lines but I cannot park with 4 wheels in the road as it's on a bend and it's too dangerous. My car will poke right out on the cusp of the bend, there is a school on my road and it would be dangerous to park like that. - Sometimes I do manage to nab one of the two spaces but I'm scared to go out incase I come back and there's no where left. I do not mind walking a short distance from my car to my house but I would need to park a significant distance from my property in order to find a space. I don't qualify for a blue badge and I'm totally lost on what to do. Last week I could only park down the road but I can't walk carrying my son I pulled up to get him inside with his dad and was then going down the road to try and find a space, as I was doing that they drove round and got me again. I was crying my eyes out with stress. If the council came and painted two extra lines all this would be solved. I'd pay for it! Any advice?? Thanks |

Code 62 is for parking on the footway. We need to see the pcn and council photos. Redact only reg and pcn number

Ah!--neighbours and vehicle access crossings (dropped kerbs).
This one will give some background if the new dk is excessive or where the Council failed to take account of loss of parking in giving your neighbour permission:- http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showto...mp;hl=rotherham Perhaps the solution is to get your own VAC (dropped kerb)!! Mick |

OP, despite your valiant efforts to describe the situation with 1,000 words, a picture (or more) is really needed.
Post a GSV link and then modify this with your description, it'll give a much clearer idea of what's what. Also, give us a timeline of PCNs and correspondence pl: PCN 1, contravention code **; dated **** Submitted a challenge on ***, if applicable. And post the front and rear deleting only personal data but leaving in all times etc. PCN 2, code ***; dated *** Challenge submitted etc. We only need one specimen PCN posted if the contraventions are the same. |

A 62 contravention has nothing to do with a dropped kerb. It's for parking with your wheels on the pavement.

Thank you everyone I'll post the pcns and details when I get home later.
I don't know why some people reply to a post knowing full well they aren't being helpful. I'm well aware that 62 contravention is for parking with wheels on the pavement... I got the ticket I know what it's for thank you Dj Lexy. |

- there are no yellow lines but I cannot park with 4 wheels in the road as it's on a bend and it's too dangerous. My car will poke right out on the cusp of the bend, there is a school on my road and it would be dangerous to park like that. If the road is unrestricted you should park on the carriageway. We see this a lot - people say they parked on the pavement to avoid being an obstruction but that isn't your problem. Many roads have room only for one car width owing to parked cars on either side. Let's see the details. |
