In a big panic tonight.

I don't regularly open my post and do it in batches.
Date of letter for NIP is 18/12/18 for speeding offence.
Second reminder dated 8/01/19. I work shifts and then was holiday so only received this today.

I realise it's after 28 days.

What's the best way forward?
Can I avoid court by presenting to a Police station tomorrow morning and returning the NIP by special delivery first thing?

Very worried about this all and really want to avoid court.

Your best bet is to call thee police on the NIP and explain. Get it posted ASAP.

And maybe open your post when it arrives? rolleyes.gif

Presumably you have 28 days to respond to the latest notice, i.e. the one dated 8th January? So you you still have the best part of two week to respond.

I know. It said 7 days to respond to the one on 08/01/19!!!

Should I go in person to the station?

How do I get confirmation from the Police to say that they received my response?

Thanks - I meant confirmation of our telephone conversation and the outcome? Do they write to you?

Have you experience in this situation?
Can they use discretion to prevent it going further?

You should reply as soon as possible and phone them as mentioned.

They will probably allow the late nomination and process it as normal. However, there is a chance they will want to progress the failing to furnish offence.

I don't understand why you would have received a 7 day reminder only 3 weeks after issue of the initial NIP.

What is the date of offence? You mention 2nd reminder, was the 18/12 request the first reminder (with 7 days to respond) or the initial NIP with 28 days to respond? Are they definitely the same offence?

First one was returned undelivered?

That very much depends on the content of the request for information dated 18/12. OP hasn't exactly given us much to go on. But the assumption i guess is 18/12 was a reminder, as was 8/1.

Or a separate offence is hanging around undelivered/unopened.

What did the police say when you called them?

You've now returned the S.172?

Very vague tbh "send it back to us and we will process it" - they were administrators on the phone. I also emailed - again administrators. They said if I am eligible speed awareness or 3 points / fine. I tried to clarify what they would do about the slightly late response - they just said they would process it and get back to me next week.

I'll keep you updated when I hear more.

Great news. Speed awareness course booked today.

I think I got leniency due to all the bank holidays over Christmas.
Lucky escape.
