Hi all,

Been issued with a NIP for going through a red light, I have indentified myself as the driver, just wondering what the outcome of the response will be.

The offence was in SW London, 0.9 seconds into red.

Will I be offered a course to dodge the points? Or does this only apply to speeding.

Thanks

The NDORS What's Driving Us course covers traffic light offences, whether the Met will offer you one I cannot say.

Otherwise it is almost certainly going to be a fixed penalty of £100 and 3 points.

Ok that's strange course of action. I thought it would be if it's available they will offer you it.

He means policy in the sense of what criteria they use to decide if a particular offence is suitable to be addressed by the course, or by fixed penalty, or by prosecution. For example they're hardly likely to offer a course if you sailed through 10s after the light went red, but for 0.5s they almost certainly would - it depends what their criteria are.

He means policy in the sense of whether they offer the course to anyone, and if they do what criteria they use to decide if a particular offence is suitable to be addressed by the course, or by fixed penalty, or by prosecution. Would anyone know roughly how long it will take them to reply. I sent the letter at the start of this month (first class) and still haven't heard anything back, I didnt do recorded delivery or anything just whacked a stamp on it and put it in the post box.

Kinda worried if they haven't received it because I'll get in further **** if not.

Anything up to 3 weeks wouldn't be unusual.

If it helps once i emailed the force and requested at their discretion if they can kindly offer a course instead. I indeed was offered the course. If you dont ask you dont get i suppose.

0.9s into the red would normally result in a course.

Asking or not asking will make no difference. Your time in to red obviously fell within the criteria for the course offer.
