I have just recieved a £60 car parking ticket from a private company for a 10 minute stay.

My friend is a joiner and has been working in a new internet cafe in my town and asked me to call in to see his work. The shop he is working on is on a main road with double yellows, but just across from there is a super bowl with its own car park. So I parked my van on there and went across the road to see him. I wasn't there long and when I returned to my van there was a parking fine notice on it.

I know that the car park has signs saying no parking expect for customers, there probably not the best signs, but they are there.

The superbowl car park was empty apart from 1 car (out of over 20 spaces) so I wasn't effecting the business in any way.

At 14:13 I phoned my friend to tell him I was outside the shop, and at 14:22 I was back at my van as I phoned him again to tell him I had a fine. The ticket was issued at 14:15.

I know I shouldn't of parked there but it is annoying as many of you on here will know, to get a large fine for such a small stay. And when my friend told me to park on the main road with double yellow lines and I decided not to, so not to cause an obstruction.

I was going to write a letter to the company with a sob story about how I was only there 10 minutes and that it is better me parking there than on the main road, but as it is a private company they probably won't care about that.

Looking at my ticket though the vehicle registration details do not look right. The reg of my van is VN06 xxx but on the ticket they seem to have worte VV06 xxx

Is this a strong enough case to get this ticket with drawn. I've heard about people doing this before and winning.

If so how would I go about it, are there any template letters anywhere I should use, and should I even pay the fine in the first place? It says on the ticket I can appeal with 28 days but I do I must also pay the fine and only if I'm successful will I get my money back.

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris, it's a private ticket so is based on contract and is nothing more than an invoice, have a look at some of the other threads on Private Tickets.

Don't call them or contact them other than suggested in the other threads

Here is one to be starting with

As to paying first and getting money back if you win, the chances of winning and getting money back are proportional to the amount of blood you can get out of a stone
