The duke is in charge of organising state occasions, such as the State Opening of Parliament. He organised the Queen's funeral… and will arrange the King's coronation. He was stopped by police after his BMW cut across the officers' car, going through a red light … The officers drove up to his car and saw he was using his mobile phone. … the highest-ranking duke in England already had nine penalty points on his driving licence due to previous speeding offences … magistrates endorsed his licence with six points and banned him from driving for six months. Ms Way chair of the magistrates said “…hardship needs to be exceptional and although we find inconvenience may be caused, we don't find it exceptional hardship." “ …he had the means to employ drivers, although they would need security clearance.” I wonder who will arrange clearance and how much it will cost. |

A quick pardon would solve that issue.

… the highest-ranking duke in England The Duke of Norfolk has a high rank amongst Dukes due to the fact the Dukedom is one of the eldest, it doesn't actually mean anything in terms of 'power' or 'influence. He has an estimated Net worth of £23M so can certainly afford to have a driver for 6 months! I'm pretty sure that Cornwall, Edinburgh and York outrank Norfolk

Only £23m. That’s tough. Perhaps in these straightened times and given the local terrain, he'll opt for a push bike instead. Only 4 miles from castle to the office. And, it would be a green option.

I wonder who will arrange clearance and how much it will cost. He'll have to pay for it (I hope), or it's probably possible to hire drivers who already have clearance - at a cost. Starting from scratch, it takes a while. He should also be made to pay additional court costs for wasting their time on a frivolous exceptional hardship plea. And for bending the truth: it's a mile at the most from Arundel castle to the station. This post has been edited by The Slithy Tove: Thu, 29 Sep 2022 - 06:23 |
