Hi all,
Firstly, apologies if this is not in the correct section please notify me if not. First post, though I have viewed from afar in the past. Quick question: I've a garaged car that i have not taxed or insured since around Aug 2016. I now want to sell and have realised my oversight - any advice? do I SORN before sale etc, any tips on possibly avoiding penalty etc? Thanks in advance. Delete Post |

Is the V5C up to date with your current address? It seems odd you haven't had one of those automatic fines in the post.

I bought the car at end of 2014 i'd not received the V5 until i realised and chased it up sometime last year. 3 years to realise you didn't receive a V5C????? If you've not SORN'ed - taxed - insured it at all, i'm surprised DVLA haven't been chasing you wanting large amounts of money, but maybe you've slipped through the net. It had been taxed and insured since bought but they ran out when it was stopped being used around 18months ago.
What is my next step? Do i SORN now or will selling the car and transferring the V5 start the process? |

Personally knowing the reliability of the monkeys and typewriters at the DVLA I would leave it. Worst case scenario it adds a couple of months onto the DVLA moaning letter. Best case your form goes to a separate room of V5C monkeys who have never heard of the SORN monkeys.
After all you can't transfer anything the SORN across so the new keeper is unlikely to care. Don't poke the monkey with a stick. This post has been edited by notmeatloaf: Sat, 7 Apr 2018 - 16:52 |
