I live around 5 miles from Gatwick and, when we were allowed to travel, often had friends and family travelling via Gatwick leave their cars at my house. I would then drive them out to the airport and drop them off in front of the terminal.
From Monday it will cost a minimum of £5 to drop someone off. Talk about fleecing the motorist. |

Last time I used Gatwick to fly somewhere (must be over 10 years ago now) I just parked here https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.1654319,-...3312!8i6656 and walked. Looks like it's still unrestricted. I think they rely on the fact that most people won't want to schlep themselves and their luggage that sort of distance. You also need to know how to get into the terminal on foot, as the regular roadways into places like Gatwick are not pedestrian friendly. Sure, my point is they're never going to make me pay for airport parking. As for how you get in, there's an access road here https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.1636593,-...3312!8i6656 that is open to pedestrian traffic. -------------------- If you would like assistance with a penalty charge notice, please post a thread on https://www.ftla.uk/index.php

Worth checking, but at Heathrow there is 2 hours free in the long term car park so you can park there and get the bus in/out of the terminal without any issues. Same at Luton. Yes, Gatwick offers the same, but it is nowhere near as convenient as dropping off right outside the terminal. I'm not sure Gatwick does offer a free period in the long term. In any case the long term is a five to ten minute bus ride from the terminals. The short term is (remarkably coincidentally) £5 for 30 mins. The train option (for two people) would have to be from Horley (£2.10 single each) as Three Bridges is £2.60. Too much faffing about anyway, even if it was free. I usually stay overnight at the Premier Inn so I'll just swallow it - if and when I'm ever allowed to travel again, that is. Diabolical liberty nonetheless, especially as Air Passenger Duty was increased in the budget. Currently 2 hours free in the long-stay with free shuttle bus to departures. |
