Hello all,

On a recent trip to Hull, we received a PCN for parking our car in a Solo Motorcycle bay. I have a Blue Badge which was displayed with the clock correct. The bay is at the end of a long line of disabled bays, and we didn’t realise that it wasn’t also a disabled bay. We were all stressed as it was in the week before our house move, and three out of the four of us in the car are disabled in some way, including a dementia sufferer. It was a necessary trip to sort out the funds for the house move.

The Only sign it was a m/c bay was written on the road, and there was no pavement furniture (bars) to lock a bike to (which, as a former bike rider, makes the bay useless to any rider who doesn’t want their bike TWOC’d).

The PCN was on Saturday 23/11/2019, and it states “Parked in a parking place or area not designated for that class of vehicle”. It has “in Solo Motorcycle Bay” written on. No mention of the blue badge.

If I’m honest, I’d intended to pay within 14 days, just to get it out of the way, given everything else I had to deal with due to moving house. Now I find myself waking up in the middle of the night, in the new house, thinking ‘s*** I’ve forgotten to pay the parking ticket’, and it’s now £70 instead of £35. So I figure I might as well ask if it’s worth appealing.

Advice would be appreciated.

@MMV, no sign....you're right that it's a point, but not minor.

Yet again we have an OP who will not post the authority's evidence. What are we to do?

You have said that you felt the markings could be clearer but as you can see in the enclosed images they could not be any clearer. They are new and are compliant with the TSRGD 2016. There is no requirement for any upright signage and I do not think that upright signage would be of any further use as you had to drive across this signage

The signs are clear.
The signs are incomplete;
No-one cares what the officer thinks about whether the presence of a sign would enhance a motorist's understanding.

OP, we must see their photos.

+1, BlackOnyx show us the council's photos and post up the rejection letter. No direct quotes please, just post a scan of the letter.

IIRC there is no requirement for an upright sign if the bay is for a single purpose 24/7
