While it is apparently a record fine, it is "only" about two-thirds of his reported weekly income. That seems lenient in the circs. |

Bearing in mind that "relevant weekly income" is after tax & NI, and isn't the same as the much higher reported gross income he has (which may only be

And in any case, there still has to be some form of proportionality, even in exceptional cases. It’s not as simple as RWI x multiplier.

Hopefully we'll also start seeing Premier League footballers getting hefty fined for their all-too-frequent speeding offences. Still be water off a duck's back for them, but what can you do?

The cap was only removed for Level 5 fines. Speeding is Level 3, 4 on a motorway.

Friend of mine made the same comments about how low it seemed, until I noted the same points as Fredd. With the supposed fine band level, and that the fine is based on income after tax etc, then I said to him that it seemed about right to me.

I like the guy and hope he returns to TV, but I feel like hes got off very lightly. I'd have expected a longer ban considering the fact he crashed.
