Hi, was just looking for someone to put my mind at rest really, has anyone had any experience of being flashed by one of the HADEC cameras when they’ve been doing LESS than the indicated variable speed limit? Last night at approximately 2am the variable speed limit on the M6 was indicating 50 mph on the gantry. The location was the M6 north just north of J11, literally where the M6 Toll merges with the M6. I saw the 50 sign well in advance & slowed to 48 mph (48 was showing on the digital speedo on the dash), my true speed was probably therefore around 46 mph, and as I went past the gantry the HADEC camera lit me up with a single flash. There was no doubt it was me it flashed because, as I say, there was no one alongside me & the nearest vehicle was about 1/4 mile behind me. My colleague in the passenger seat was equally as surprised as me. He tried reassuring me that it’s probably just faulty & that to capture you it needs to flash twice (I have no idea as to the accuracy of this statement, can anyone with technical knowledge confirm). I’m just now nervously awaiting an erroneous NIP with no proof that I was going at least 2moh under the displayed speed limit. Thanks in advance for any input.

Cameras reboot every 24 hours or so and do a start up self-test, this includes a dummy flash though it is a double flash. Maybe if it only flashed once a fault was detected during the start up sequence.

This might explain what I saw on the M5 early yesterday morning, no cars in front and no speed limit displayed, and the camera I hadn't passed yet flashed seemingly at random. Some flashes in the distance too shortly after.
