Hi all,
I’m a HGV driver, Was driving towards Leeds on the M62 and approaching Junction 27, This is a Variable speed limit zone. My cruise control was set at 50 mph and was flashed, there was absolutely no speed limit shown above 100% as all other gantries were the same and did not have a speed limit. I then got off at the next junction to and spun around to make sure and check there wasn’t any speed limit present. Was nothing. Time was roughly 2am. Just wondering can these cameras flash for no reason? Or can the overhead gantry speed limit be switched off and cameras turned on? Please could someone shed some light on this and possibly put my nerves at ease Speed awareness course will this be offered if for example I get caught doing 50mph in a 40mph variable speed limit? As generally that’s the lowest speed limit I’ve seen set on the M62 (Leeds area) worse case scenario... even though I’m certain there was nothing showing. The cameras are the ones on the near side post. I regularly travel on this route, and have noticed these cameras flash for no reason on the other side of the M Way. Hence why I have doubts if these cameras functionality is to blame |

Why would you need a human check? What is the worst that could go wrong? Do the cameras use ANPR? As I understand it they rely on the full colour pictures and a human just reads the number plate, hence the off mis-read plate case we get now and again. -------------------- If you would like assistance with a penalty charge notice, please post a thread on https://www.ftla.uk/index.php

So the worst that will happen is the occasional mis-read, which will inconvenience the ‘victim’, but nothing worse. On the other hand, employ a human with salary, pension, NI and overheads. He/she will be bored out of his skull within days (hours?) and probably make more mistakes than the ANPR. |

And yes, they are victims. True. But I doubt it would be less likely if a bored human became involved in t he process. |

It could get very stressful indeed |

I live in Leeds and was driving on this road yesterday, all be it on the other side. The cameras were flashing almost nonstop and a call to WYP confirmed there was an ongoing fault that had been getting worse since Wednesday!

Thanks for confirming, was there any particular junctions of any interest? When mine went off. It was just a pure ordinary flash flash and coming back there was nothing at all. Not sure... |
