I was travelling along M6 Junction 10A (Wolverhampton) yesterday where there were was variable speed limits being in forced. It had been showing the speed limit as 60mph but as I was coming along the motorway (see picture), it then was showing as 50mph. I only show saw the changed from 60 to 50 as a large vehicle in front of me had passed through it. I was doing about 58mph but had start to slow down as I passed through the speed limit signs above me and had got down to 54mph.
I know the M6 motorway uses HADECS 3 speed cameras to capture speeding but having looked back on my dashcam, I could not see this speed camera to the left of the gantry. On the google map picture, it also show no speed camera to the left. I am worried that I have still be caught speeding as I do not know whether these cameras would be on top of the gantry hidden out of view? |

If you were doing 54, then it is unlikely you will hear anything. Enforcement usually starts at limit+10% +2, so at 50, you would be "safe" upto 56

Hadecs 3 cameras are clearly visible on a platform roadside, not above the lanes. M6 J10 they are above lanes but not HADEC3s (AFAIK) North of toll road they are HADEC3s on side. There is a delay on enforcement when speed limits change down so if just passing on change, should not get anything even if over the +10%+2mph on new limit. But waiting 14 days is only way to be sure. BTW, if you cannot see the overhead gantries behind a lorry, you are too close to it This post has been edited by DancingDad: Wed, 24 Oct 2018 - 12:50 |

I had start to slow down my speed as I passed through it. |

I’m pretty sure that at that particular gantry there are no cameras at all, gatso box style above or hadecs 3 to the side. Even so at 54 you wouldn’t get a NIP etc.

M6 J10 they are above lanes but not HADEC3s (AFAIK) North of toll road they are HADEC3s on side. It’s now also Hadecs 3 on the gantry side from J10A (M54) past J10 to at least M5 and I think beyond, north and southbound. All the grey overhead gatso style boxes have gone now. |

I stand corrected, can't say I've noticed Hadecs south of 10A, is a month or two since I've been up that way. Must admit that my attitude is that the whole stretch is infested with cameras so I set the speed limiter and behave. Satnav beeps to tell me upcoming cameras but trust it, not on your life. And I keep an eye on upcoming gantries, the variable speed can be very variable along there. |

Couple of times a week for me, living off the end of the M54. I actually think there is one hadecs side gantry that replaced two overhead gantry locations between 10A and 9. As you say the variable is very variable, more often than not the final VSL before M54 is 40, or less than the 60 usual in place beforehand. VSLs are all a crock of **** frankly.

Went up that way yesterday, must be going blind.
Got on at J6 going north. Plenty of beeps from satnav and obvious lines across carriageway but spotted not one Gatso on Gantries, on either side of motorway. Saw one Hadec just after gantry between J7 and J8 Off at J10. Came back from M54... Again spotted nuffink except the traffic cams on poles. Confuzzed or need to go to specsavers ? |

There’s fewer hadecs now than were gantry gatsos before. There is definitely a side mounted Hadecs 3 southbound between M54 and Walsall J10 though.
google maps link Think that’s the last one southbound until some way beyond M5 junction. I must concentrate on learning them again as I’ve got into the habit of being needlessly distracted by every gantry regardless. |

There’s also a hadecs northbound just after the M5 has slipped off on the last gantry just before the M5 slip joins on. Sneaky that one as it’s often a gap in any queues due to being 3 lanes but with half as much traffic and everyone puts on a spurt of speed before hitting the M5 join queue.
