Report in today's Daily Mail http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1061808/
Apparently an emergency Cabinet meeting has been convened as a result of this report, and the Government has taken the decision to withdraw all funding for SCPs and speed cameras. An ACPO spokesman said that this is likely to cause thousands of redundancies across the country, as camera operators and ticket office staff are laid off. Oh, and I've got the winning numbers for tonight's £100m Euro Lottery.
Edit: Damn, those lotto numbers were wrong (before I get any begging letters)
Do you think the Government may have realised millions of registered voters are going to provide them with feedback on their ‘economic miracle’ and their Integrated Transport Policy?
How many accidents are caused by drivers seeing cameras and reacting so as to cause a danger to other road users? I have seen it, and it has scared the Sh** out of me! It is only a matter of time before there is a fatality. The British sense of fair play is why there is an uproar over these non human devices. It costs us more on paperwork, time, money misery and stress. Don't speed? OK. It does however give a job to some drongo to push paperwork around. What really gets me is that the respective Councils don't get the money, the Treasury does. So, in a way, the Councils are pimping for the Government, Nice. At least if you get pulled over by a Traffic Cop, you have a warm body to speak to. All very impersonal and unfair. That is the reason why sites like this are there, it is unfair that the few get their say, but no one else does. Tell me the last time you sat on the M11 and the accident you have just passed you think was caused by excessive speed? Undertaking? Bad Driving? ( Shame someone cant invent a device to detect an idiot in charge of a Motor Vehicle, we all see it) Bet.
most accidents are minor bumps from parking or stop/start traffic
and do little harm - those 3% high speed accidents probably do much more harm death/injury/damage than all the others combined
lets not abuse statistsics
one interewtsuing excercise is to compare average speed on german autobahns and uk
motorways and accidents - ill try and find the link
the main problem is bad driving - idiots and incompetents - there are few 'accidents'
in the sense of no one to balme
