I have received a FPN for unnecessary obstruction. Basically i was parked in a friends alleyway which goes to the back entry of a block of terraced houses. I was parked there so that we could take some rubbish to the tip. The street is a permit only parking. We decided to go and get a bite to eat and left the car unattended. My friend has lived in the street for 73 years. He is known by all the residents. Whilst out he got a call off one of the residents asking if we could move the car as she needed to get to work . He didn't know any one kept a car in the back entry. It turns out that she was renting a room and had put the car in her back yard behind a set of wooden gates. We told her we would be back in 30 minutes but she said she had already called the police! On return i had a FPN. My argument is that she should not have a car in the back yard as the council do not allow it. If i had known i would not of parked there. There are 2 other alleyways in the road which also had cars parked in them (which is normal practice) but i was the only one that got the FPN.
Is it worth contesting in the Magistrates Court or should i just pay the £30?

Pay the £30, you without doubt committed the offence (from what you say) and it will cost you a lot more in court.

Even with a 50:50 defence the risk in court just wouldn’t be worth taking.
