Hello there, I need help & advice on this one and anything else will also be appreciated.

tl;dr I was pulled over by a met police officer at 30/12/2017 for doing 110 mph on A20 while I was doing 68, I have video evidence.

Here is the frontal dash footage with the speedo reading from my HUD (not very clear tho), I intentionally included 10 mins more driving in the video, before I meet the police officer to show you that I was not speeding at all. Please read the description or comment on the video to skip to the relevant part, but here
is a copy of that,

"Police officers sitting at the side of the road in the bushes, video location 10:35, google map location https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.3939669,0...3312!8i6656
stopped me at 14:50 allegate me doing 110 MPH! 16:20 He later told me that “It is easy to not notice your speed in such powerful car.”"

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKySmZeT9NA

Here are some bulletin point that I would like to highlight,

1, I was following the traffic (even fallen behind it) before I meet the police car hiding behind bushes.
2, I was overtaken by another car when I pass them.
3, I handed it my license when pulled over, I did not take any penalty point or fine on the spot, the police office provides verbal NIP to me but states that letter should arrive within 14 days.
4, I signed the reporting ticket to show my acknowledgement but not admittance, he did not give any back to me.
5, I think his device might be set to kmph as 110 kmph was matching the speeding I was doing 68mph as you can see from the video.
6, I have one passenger(my wife) with me on the car, she knows what it feels like to driving 110mph as we have been to the autobahn.

Not here is what I think I might do:

I will wait for any letter to arrive, and appeal anything to me, go to court with my wife and my video, ask for any calibration record of the device and show my video.

However here are my doubt and questions,

1, Was the evidence suffice? I was not speeding either intentionally or unintentionally.
2, I need to change my address 2 times in the coming 6 months, is noticing DVLA enough? I am worrying missing any letter sent to me.
3, Is there anything I can do to ask for justice? Without my dashcam I could left stranged and hand in thousands of pounds in fine and 6 points for something I never committed.

I was on that stretch of the A20 earlier today and it's quite possible the officer pinged a car travelling on the opposite carriageway by mistake, especially in an elevated position such as the seat of an X5.
That's the only possible way a laser gun could have got a true reading of 110mph.

Well that raises an interesting point, if there was no malfunction and the officer is just that incompetent in the use of the device, are any other convictions based on his evidence possibly "unsafe"?

I did look for that possibility when I viewed the video but could not see anything apaprantly travelling that fast in the opposite carriageway.

I couldn't see anything obvious on the other carriageway either, but it's difficult when all you can see are lights on a relatively poor video.

I still think the van that passes him is the most likely candidate on the westbound carriageway if it wasn't operator error.

Would the reading not be -110 or is that only on the camera vans?

Most devices will show a minus sign for vehicles going away from the laser

Found this on the YouTube video from the uploader:

QUOTE
For anyone interested in what happened next, I made a complaint to the Met police. The Met complaint team was very responsive and located the officer despite that I didn't ask for their name & warrant number etc.. The line manager of the officer contacted and offered me an apology, turns out the officer never actually put the report through as he was "not sure about the speeder" when he went back to the office, he later viewed this video confirmed that I was not speeding.

In my opinion, this dashcam video has been proven vital to this incident. If I learnt anything,

1, get a dashcam
2, always ask for the officer's name and warrant number when you were stopped.

Thanks everyone, case closed!

Sorry guys! I have always been monitoring the forum since the incident, but I saw the forum have 4 pages history limit and I wasn't sure if digging out an old post is welcomed or not.

As someone previously mentioned, the officer's line manager made an apology to me. There is no law against traffic stop and not to mention 'threatening a ticket' that I could keep this complaint going as far as I know. So I accept the apology as quote the manager 'he had made a professional mistake, nothing personal'

Thank you, everyone, for your help, that was really comforting in my time of need. wink.gif

I suspect it might be a reference to the current version of the video on YouTube having lost its previously visible timestamp, and that for some reason at 18:20 it now suddenly jumps back and repeats the conversation with the police officer.

I haven't seen that version but I assume it still has the same conversation where the police officer says "I targeted your car" and "we don't make it up" ?
@ peteruk Not sure what you're getting at with re which version.

I asked the same question, he said 'That is why he never put the report in because he might be sure at the time, but when he came back to the office, he wasn't 100% sure. And we don't put a report in if we are not 100% sure'

He also mentioned that the officer is 'opened to mistake like this' by enforcing speeding at that time of day with open dual carriage and heavy traffic. And some blah blah about how he will make sure such thing won't happen again.

He was very apologetic and sincere when explaining these kinds of stuff to me, but tbh I don't buy the whole lot, and what can I do dry.gif

So basically he's admitted that absent a video, you're guilty or innocent based on whether he "thinks" he's 100% sure. Doesn't inspire confidence.

That is what I think as well, but then he emphasized that the officer did not put in a report on that night, before receiving my complaint and my video. I don't buy it but there is no choice but to accept it.
