Dear members,
Some time ago I made two crossings at Dartford in a rented vehicle, and unfortunately didn't remember to pay the charges. The first notice I received about this was an email from the hire company, sent 39 days after the crossings took place, informing me of the two PCNs they received, as well as the £70 they want paid for covering their own administration.
I tried to enter the details on the DART charge website, but can't proceed as it says that the account is on hold. From reading past posts on similar topics, I understand that perhaps the first port of call should be the Dartford crossing's twitter account, but I thought it would be wise to wait to hear from other members first.
Thank you,

So what is the rental company going to do or has done with its PCNs?

I think you need to contact dart charge and find out what's happened with the PCNs, it sounds like maybe the rental company has made a representation asking dart charge to transfer liability to you?

So what is the rental company going to do or has done with its PCNs?

The email I received contained what I believe is a sort of paraphrase of the PCNs, with information concerning what time the violations occurred and the penalty charge notice numbers.

The email states that it is a notification of my liability, and having just re-read it I've noticed that I missed the part which says that more information about the PCNs will be available when they are sent to me. Given this, would contacting DART charge be premature and complicate matters, or would it be a good idea anyway?

Copy and paste the email here, deleting only your name and address, if there.
Is it a long term lease (greater than 6 months) or not?

Please read the sticky here http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showto...t&p=1755543 before posting a new case, or possibly after you posted it so that you can edit it. In any event, please read it.

Sorry for not getting back with the documents as requested, but I have just now received the two PCN's from DART, as the email seemed to suggest would happen.

It was only a few days.

If the members would still like to see the just received PCNs, am I wrong in thinking that the documents should have all personal information removed first?

It's the 'blurb' that's important with these, so pl post all 4 corners of every side of at least one PCN.

The only information that is in any way sensitive is your postal address, and if it bothers you your name. Nothing else really identifies you at all, especially for a rental vehicle.

Sorry if I'm being paranoid, but having read the FAQ here it felt daring enough just to leave the dates in.

DART used to offer first-time offenders the opportunity to just pay the crossing fee. In your case it's not stated on the PCN. I wonder whether this could be because it's been reissued or whether the hire company isn't a first-time offender!

I suggest you contact DART and enquire on this point alone. Don't discuss the contravention, just say that you heard that ....., you might add that as you drove twice would they, in the spirit of Christmas*, extend this to both?

*- I've seen so much Christmas paraphernalia in shops already, I'm almost expecting to hear Andy Williams' voice.

Those links don't seem to work? I just get this:

Saying that, we don't need to see a blank PCN template, without the details there's no point in posting it. The worst that could happen if you post the details is that someone might pay the PCN for you, but that doesn't seem very likely.

I hadn't heard of the spirit of Christmas appeal before, but when you say the contravention shouldn't be discussed, does that mean I shouldn't make a representation yet, and instead contact them another way?

I suppose that no benefactors will grace me if they can't see the image file, but perhaps it's an intermittent issue as hcandersen's comment seems to suggest that they have managed to load it.

Just talk to DART, they're amenable if you explain your query which is that you have received PCNs but you understand that in the event of first-time transgressions DART normally offer to forego the penalty if the crossing fee is paid within a specified time. This is not on your PCNs, could this be that this is no longer offered or possibly because the original PCNs went to a hire company?

Don't dilly-dally pl.

No more dilly-dallying, I've sent them a message mentioning that I'm a first-time transgressor and that it was a hire vehicle.

Phone them and talk to them. I've fund them helpful in the past. It's often quicker than email/twitter/posting on here over a matter of weeks.

I don't have the exact message, but it was words to the effect of: I've received PCNs which I understand for first time offenders are usually commuted to an offer of paying the unpaid crossing fees, but that I wasn't driving my own vehicle but a hire car.

Given that it's been two days and they haven't replied, perhaps I'd better follow roythebus's advice and give them a ring.
