I drove behind another car on the motorway this morning who opened his window, emptied a can of drink which sprayed all over my car, then threw the can out of the window which hit my car at 70mph leaving a nice deep mark on my front bumper with the paint taken off.

I pulled up alongside him gesticulating to pull over but he just shrugged and sped off. Not only that, but I have probably never seen anyone with such atrocious driving skills. Weaving in and out of traffic without indicating, driving right up the backside of other cars and undertaking and squeezing into gaps where other motorists have to brake to avoid a collision.

I reported him to the police who weren't interested in the slightest. They just said to go through my insurance. I rang my insurance who said it would go down as a fault claim as there's little chance they'd be able to recover the costs from the 3rd party insurer.

What a just world we live in...

if the quote button worked i would use it but everytime i try it tells me I have unfinished quotes and will not let me post.

plus this IS the Flame Pit. So seems entirely reasonable to be asking questions of the poster

QUOTE (oldstoat @ Wed, 13 Sep 2017 - 17:41) *
I have no probs with the OP telling it the way they say they saw it. But To the OP, to clear up any confusion.

Last time I checked, I wasn't the one up for interrogation. Nor did I ask anyone to form an (ill)opinion on what happened, as I was there remember. I said that it's a sad state of affairs that someone could throw objects out of their window whilst traveling at 70mph, cause damage to the vehicle behind them and then carry on with their day without any consequence. Also the lack of interest from the police was surprising seeing as you could get someone convicted for dangerous driving by reporting them for doing an overtake you didn't like.

By the responses in this thread it seems this sort of behaviour is perfectly acceptable which is even more worrying.

Nobody has suggested that his actions were anything but unacceptable, unless i missed it.What led to it was all that was being asked. That question seems to have hit a nerve.

No nothing's 'hit a nerve'. It's just f*cking annoying when you keep banging on about what you think might have happened, after I've stated on several occasions what actually happened.

My answer wasnt a serious one, keep up!! I would get the touch up stick out and move on with life, but some love the drama.Renewal time should be something to look forward to.

What i do know though if i had had items thrown from a vehicle which damaged mine and i felt that way inclined , i wouldnt have left the police station until a proper report was made. The fact the police wouldnt take it serious adds to the doubt on events.
Although i wouldnt have 'found' myself behind this driver and my reactions are still fast enough to have avoided the can should it have been thrown in front of me,but that would only work if there was enough distance between the 2 vehicles to allow for that.In my case there WOULD have been,in this case, who knows.

Given that the inane wittering of some members can be so annoying to others I'm surprised that the "Ignore user" facility isn't used more, quite honestly.

You think I read them anyway? No, it's completely random throwing of thunderbolts from on high.

If you wished to not be questioned, then the Flame Pit was not quite the appropriate sub-forum

The Flame Pit is for off-topic threads, not just argumentative ones.

Would that have been side-swiping a vehicle in another lane, braking hard and causing an accident by being rear-ended or by some clever
trick of temporary levitation?

-- bearing in mind neither of us know the actual scenario, other than has been adequately described.
