'The DVLA does not profit from the release of information from its registers. The £2.50 fee is set to recover the cost of providing the information.'

An on-line system that validates a request then accesses the database and responds cannot possible cost £2.50 per shot. More like 1/10penny. It is quite clear DVLA are coining it.

Funnier than that - they have previously stated the system actually runs at a loss! (Something like £2.84 a shot)

Gotta pay some bosses some juicy bonuses...?

QUOTE
The RAC Foundation found 6.8million sets of vehicle keeper records were released to parking management firms in 2018 to 2019, up a fifth from 5.65million a year earlier.

Of course, this isn't the whole iceberg. Those who pay up immediately on discovering a NtD on their windscreen, those who fall for the Excel/VCS 'This is not a parking charge' red card, and those who pay non-ATA operators who chance their arm with windscreen tickets on bomb-site bits of land are over and above the 6.8million motorists falling foul of parking companies.

QUOTE
The rise of the widespread use of Automatic Numberplate Recognition Cameras, known as ANPR, combined with the DVLA's willingness to sell on details has led the number of private parking tickets being issued soaring.

The cut price versions of the ones previously used by local authorities which the Government has banned because of their lack of accuracy.

QUOTE
with local government minister Rishi Sunak writing in This is Money that 'the rogue operators are on their way out for good.

That shouldn't leave too many then.

QUOTE
This is Money has previously calculated that it only requires a private parking firm to claw back a £60 charge from one in every 24 drivers to break even on the cost of buying your details.

FFS, I wonder which genius they had shouting 'Eureka' when he/she worked that one out - 24 x £2.50 equals £60. Oxbridge has much to be proud of.

QUOTE
The RAC Foundation said the figures suggested as much as £680million could be being demanded from drivers, if penalty charge notices reach three figures.

Mastermind still hard at it - 6.8million tickets x £100 = £680million. This is starting to look like a primary school basic arithmetic project.

QUOTE
It added: 'The DVLA does not profit from the release of information from its registers. The £2.50 fee is set to recover the cost of providing the information.'

Of course!

Good, that must explain why many of their fees were cut a couple of years ago.
