Hi All,

Bit of a weird one. Some of you may have seen this article in the press:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-78...er-drivers.html

Residents of the area, of which I am one, are fuming as the congestion is a nightmare because of the recent closure, we are effectively trapped by the new closure and the old one at the Imperial Wharf luxury development. A local campaign with over 2000 signatories is raising awareness and inform that the closure went ahead with less than 50% approval. In the meantime, the council are making a small fortune from the fines residents falling into their trap are having to pay. Additionally there is a huge development of flats going up on the closed street which I suspect may have something to do with the decision, though there is of course no proof. Our MP has raised the issue in Parliament but the council are not responding to anyone.

I was just wondering whether anyone could think of an angle or strategy to get this overturned or at least to help residents falling into the LBHF trap MoneyBoy not pay towards the LBHF fundraiser? I have not been caught so far as usually on a bike but only a matter of time as it is pretty much inevitable to be caught out.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Migs1906

Have tried, initially got a response redirecting queries to a council cabinet member who is not responding on this subject.

So go back to your local Councillor, or find out when he holds surgeries. Maybe see if a few residents can come along with you.

Even Councillors have difficulty in persuading officers to change something, especially if that change might mean less revenue to the Council.

All a Councillor can legitimately do (similarly to an MP, for that matter) is persuade the officer to reconsider their decision - it would be quite improper for them to influence the officer's decision.

Suspect this may be the real motivation here and nothing we can do. There is a council meeting on it on Wednesday but can't see anything changing while they are pocketing millions.

I for one wouldn't dream of driving to work and must say I don't know any of my neighbours that do, where would you park and how much would it cost?!

Well obviously people who live in central London, a short distance from a tube station (not to mention other public transport and cycling options), aren’t going to drive to work if they work in London. I think you need to accept that the vast majority of people driving in the city on a daily basis don’t have the luxury of living there.

Completely agree, which makes this trap moneybox all the more despicable. To make matters even worse the have decided to close Wandsworth Bridge Road southbound, that should help the moneybox stats.

Not sure I understand why this makes it more despicable. Regardless, the fact that YOU (a resident of central London who also works there) wouldn't dream of driving to work doesn't mean much about the stats for single occupancy vehicles driving through London. There are plenty of other reasons why people would commute by car into or out of London.

I drive in Central London everyday. I only use public transport during the weekday if i have to be in Central 9-5 and even then I drive to the tube station to park outside it. The roads are busy not with commuters but with Uber's. Cars are essential even in Central London, no matter what Labour says or tries to do to ban them.

As you said, not everybody has the luxury of living in central London. I can only speak from personal experience but central London is not the most enjoyable place to drive, particularly at rush hour, so anybody doing so probably has few, if any, alternatives. So not only are LBHF trying to make their commute more difficult, they are actively looking for ways to charge/fine them for doing so.
