Hello,

We received a PCN when we did not realise that only the first few spaces of the street were Pay and Display and that the rest of the street was Permit holder only. As we were visiting London, we did not realise that the Pay and Display was not for the full street, especially as it seems very expensive to spend the money on a machine just for 3-4 spaces. Our car was parked a few meters after from the "permit holder" sign - we did not see it as we walked straight away to the machine to purchase a ticket.
Moreover, the machine was not working and we bought a ticket from another street; that seems to also be a mistake.
We wrote to the London Borough of Newham, however they refused to cancel the PNC.

Is there anything we can do to contest the PNC?
Should there be an obvious visible marking to show where the Pay and Display area stops?

Looking forward to your advices

Thank you

Don't think you have anything here although it's odd that Newham rabbits on about the P&D ticket location.

Streetview a bit old but there is a clear gap between bays and a bay is controlled only by the sign for that bay. Always look for the sign for teh bay you are in.

We don't expect Newham to exercise discretion for a an honest mistake.

Any pics on Newman's site, just to confirm exactly where you were? You seem to have taken a pic of a car in the P&D bay.

Thank you for reviewing our post.

We were parked near the house nb 7, which is in a different bay as you pointed out.

Disappointed Newham is not using their discretion for a genuine mistake.

Thank you for helping out

If you want to fight this one all the way, you'll need some evidence that the demarcation between the bays is poorly marked. However looking at Stamfordman's GSV reference, there's the P&D bay by the white wall, then about 10-15 yards of double yellow lines before the next bay up the street, which is a separate bay, therefore controlled separately, and is no doubt the one you parked in without looking for its sign. Correct me if I'm wrong

Entirely separate bay so no demarcation.
