Hi, The driver is not a regular traveler to or fro M25 hence wasn't aware of Dart Charge when he used it on my way to Dover. He was thinking to request cancellation purely on the basis of genuinely not know that the charge is applicable for this stretch of M25. He was expecting a booth if he was to pay (similar to M6 Toll).
Also noticed that the date of contravention is the same as the date of issue of PCN, whereas Dart Charge can be paid for by the midnight of the following day of use of crossing. Is this correct? Please see images below and advise. |

The contravention date was 12th of September the date of notice is 12th of October. There is no time limit for service in the regs.

There are a lot of signs referring to the Dart Charge on the approach to both sides of the Dartford Crossing which is actually on the A282 not the M25 . 'Pay DART charge' is meaningless unless you know what it means.

The contravention date was 12th of September the date of notice is 12th of October. There is no time limit for service in the regs. Does this mean that they can issue PCN even after months of contravention and that will be valid? There was no warning letter from them. |

If this was your first ever contravention, you should have got a covering letter with the PCN. If you didn't, call them and ask why they didn't send you one. The covering letter allows you to avoid the PCN by paying the £2.50 crossing fee, but you only get it the first time. -------------------- If you would like assistance with a penalty charge notice, please post a thread on https://www.ftla.uk/index.php

'Pay DART charge' is meaningless unless you know what it means. These forums are based on many motorists to whom signs appear to be meaningless so end up with penalties. You are not suggesting that the signage is inadequate to convey the fact that a charge is applicable to use the Dartford Crossing? |

You are not suggesting that the signage is inadequate to convey the fact that a charge is applicable to use the Dartford Crossing? Well yes. However, there are more detailed signs, eg: https://www.google.com/maps/@51.445383,0.23...6384!8i8192 but I'd say this is poor communication - the word 'toll' is a more universal one and surely there should be a big sign saying something about the lack of toll booths. crappy sign on slip rd: https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4487784,0.2...6384!8i8192 More temp signs https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4572193,0.2...6384!8i8192 This post has been edited by stamfordman: Wed, 17 Oct 2018 - 14:44 |

The regulations require that a review of this scheme is undertaken five years after commencement so October this year. I am not aware of any adjudications won on signage but if they are thought deficient then make the point to the review I find it clear but a bit awkward when leaving the country for a few weeks

How much do I pay and how? |
