Hi Guys,

Please would you shed any light on this case.

I parked my car at a paid public car park, over 100 cars per day, and someone scratched my rear bumper from mid all the way to the side, ran away no note left. Reported to police and paid/requested to Car Park company to check CCTV footage.

The car park company appears to be reluctant but anyway just emailed me saying the 'the manager checked the CCTV and nothing found'. A really short message and no footage provided to me.

But I wanna challenge the car park company, as I checked the 3 cameras at the car park, none of them seems to cover my parking space unless they are wide-angle. While I made my first call to the Car Park company the staff on the phone mentioned it as well the CCTV doesn't cover the whole area.

Wondering, 1. can I challenge them to provide me the CCTV footage to show my car in the image? If so how would they send the footage to me?
2. If their CCTV doesn't cover my parking space yet just returned by saying 'nothing found', can I challenge them to pay for the damage? As I pay them weekly for parking and they put signs at the park saying CCTV monitored, yet failed to capture the scene.

And any advice to handle the case would be appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Are you serious? What makes you think they are liable for the actions of persons unknowm?

How can they do that if the cameras don't cover where your car was situated ( which you seem to have confirmed yourself )?

Perhaps his argument is that the promise of CCTV coverage induced him to park there...

Just a query, pay for the 'parking service' (about 500 quid a year) and they advertise CCTV covered, yet 'if' they fail to carry out the promise of surveillance?!

Yeah, that's the point I tried to make. if they fail to cover the whole area yet advertising CCTV monitored, is it disputable.. as a customer who pays for parking..

Total Car Parks, they do run some large car parks, however this one not managed properly e.g. no lines to guide parking, really narrow space sometimes and people have to squeeze the way out, and in some cases scratch the way out like this one :/

Only if it comprises your personal data, which by the sounds of it it doesn’t.

It seems unlikely in a car park covered by CCTV that a car could enter & park in an unmonitored space without passing any cameras. There will be cameras on entry/exit if nowhere else.

True but I don’t think he’s particularly interested in footage that doesn’t cover his car at the relevant time.
