Hello, I guess I'm making another speed camera topic... I was driving up this road is Leicester and I have noticed the council/police have started to replace the old cameras with the Truvelo Cams. But little did I know they started adding new cameras in new locations. However this one happen to be a Truvelo but a Red Light Camera. I never knew untill today I was driving towards it, and the lights was green. But, soon as approached the stop line, it turned to a solid AMBER only light then proceeded to red as usual. Bare in mind I was doing like 26/27mph(30mph Road) and had a lorry tailgating me so obviously there was no chance of me stopping. However I'm slightly worried that maybe I didn't make it over the line in time. But it I'm just curious, isn't there some sort of lee way or tolerance with the rlc's?
Also, I didn't really notice a flash or some sort off dazzle when looking through my mirrors. I'm not sure if these ones can be seen during the day. This post has been edited by legacy99: Fri, 2 Nov 2018 - 20:22 |

A green light will only ever change to amber - an event, as a careful driver, you should be expecting. I was doing like 26/27mph(30mph Road) and had a lorry tailgating me so obviously there was no chance of me stopping. Why not? Amber is lit for 3 seconds, plenty of time to stop from 30mph. isn't there some sort of lee way or tolerance with the rlc's? IIRC, RLC triggers 0.5 second into red. Well I do expect it to go amber, but the thing was it was green but when I was literally just behind the stop line, it went amber. So I'm assuming I drove past it on amber? I guess.. But when I was driving back I seen it had 3 lines after the stop line and sensors before it. Also, are RLC set to trigger when a vehicle passes on a solid amber? |

are RLC set to trigger when a vehicle passes on a solid amber? Read my answer. If you were so close to the line when the lights changed to amber, and it was not safe to stop, then you would have a defence to any charge, which is why RLCs trigger after lights have turned red.
