https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish...ts-now-12301109

The Record have run an article claiming that its cheaper to get a £30 parking ticket in Edinburgh than it is to pay the £33.60 it would cost to park for the full day (charging takes place 0800-1800) in parts of the city centre.

Now, ignoring the fact that you can only park for 3 hours anyway, wouldn't they just have more of an incentive to tow you if you leave the car without a ticket all day? And then definitely tow you if you have not paid and your in a 3 hour zone and they stand to lose so much revenue?

Whats the reason they don't up the penalty too?

This is another reason not to go to that God forsaken city anyway, but the ridiculousness of it is just hillarious. They even have a councillor saying people would be selfish to go for the fine rather than pay the hourly rate. I think shes on another planet, as I think its quite selfish of the council to continue with their elitist policy where those who can afford it can drive in the city, but those on lower wages and whatnot aren't allowed as it costs more than half the minimum wage per hour.

As far as I know they don't get to set the penalties.

I remember reading a similar article about Cambridge

As long as the cars aren't towed and you remember to pay the discounted charge, it makes sense to take advantage

Towing for being in a permitted parking place is clearly disproportionate, towing should only be used where the vehicle is causing an obstruction that a legitimately parked car wouldn't such as DYL/Clearways etc.

Disproportionate to what? Parking penalties subsidising other council-provided services might be considered entirely justifiable by some...

I failed to read that it was a car park

The Cambridge article concerned parking on a double yellow line

Disproportionate to the drivers actions, there is no blocking of a road to free off or similar that would make it proportionate.
