NIP Details and Circumstances
What is the name of the Constabulary? - Date of the offence: - June 2018 Date of the NIP: - 4 days after the offence Date you received the NIP: - 5 days after the offence Location of offence (exact location as it appears on the NIP: important): - A12 Kelvedon NR M/Post No 14/92, Northbound Was the NIP addressed to you? - Yes Was the NIP sent by first class post, second class or recorded delivery? - Not known If your are not the Registered Keeper, what is your relationship to the vehicle? - How many current points do you have? - 0 Provide a description of events (if you know what happened) telling us as much about the incident as possible - some things that may seem trivial to you may be important, so don't leave anything out. Please do not post personal details for obvious reasons - Hi everyone. To cut to the chase it's probably a fair cop. I've been driving over 27 years and never had a ticket or warning. I would be concerned with either wasting court or my time but also keen to know the best approach. I probably won't contest it but I am confused whether to wait couple of weeks for the penalty offer, or if I need to just send in the NIP details to get that ball rolling. I am also concerned if I may have some similar on the return. Noting the location description is both specific but also ambiguous and the only site I can find with mile markers through a FOI request isn't ready to read, it would put this offence south of Chelmsford which is J14 and many miles south of Kelvedon. If the location is as specified the only thing I can think is there was a temporary restricted zone that I always respect. But then I did accelerate firmly after exiting the average zone, shortly after I did notice an average camera almost like the restricted zone signage had been moved but not the camera, and I looked down to find myself over the limit. With hindsight I also see A12 has 70mph average cameras all over the place and thought I had also passed so maybe those but it's tricky, because as I said the location assumes knowledge of data that isn't on the public domain. NIP Wizard Responses These were the responses used by the Wizard to arrive at its recommendation: Have you received a NIP? - Yes Are you the Registered Keeper of the vehicle concerned (is your name and address on the V5/V5C)? - Yes Did the first NIP arrive within 14 days? - Yes Although you are the Registered Keeper, were you also the keeper of the vehicle concerned (the person normally responsible for it) at the time of the alleged offence? - Yes Were you driving? - Yes Which country did the alleged offence take place in? - England NIP Wizard Recommendation Based on these responses the Wizard suggested that this course of action should be considered:

Recorded used to exist but no longer does. Large organisations rarely sign for 'signed for' making it a waste of money. Not really, if after 15 days it's still outstanding on the Royal Mail website, and you've not had a reply, you can legitimately put a lost item claim in against Royal Mail and you'll get a free book of stamps. -------------------- If you would like assistance with a penalty charge notice, please post a thread on https://www.ftla.uk/index.php

And we care because? It isn't stickily speaking a waste of money, and I'm a pedant. -------------------- If you would like assistance with a penalty charge notice, please post a thread on https://www.ftla.uk/index.php
