I got 2 private parking tickets. I have ignored on the advice of a friend.
Will I ever get a court summons? Details: I parked in Iceland. There was HEAVY snow. Nothing could be seen. There was no one out - apart from me shopping and some plonker parking warden. I got a ticket parking in a staff area in a hospital car park. I couldn't find ANY parking anywhere else. I didn't read their signs - I have a small sign on my car saying that I will not enter into contracts that I haven't read. Court: I would be MORE than happy to attend court and defend myself. If the appeal went against me - I would actually pay not wanting things to go further. My fear: they don't send the court summons (if any is sent) by recorded and just send by 2nd class and it gets delivered to someone else - so I actually don't know anything about it... then one day... I have some goon clamping my car or bailiffs turn up on my door step! My friend tells me not to worry and I am being pathetic about it all! LOL. Thanks. |

As long as your V5C logbook is up to date with your correct address then there is nothing else to do but sit and wait. They can decide to take you to court any time up to 6 years though. The majority of tickets still do not go to court at the moment, but there are some that do.

i've heard of bailiffs turn up chasing unpaid parking tickets? are those for councils only? |

Court may or may not happen, no-one can say whether that will happen.
Bailiffs will only come if you ignore any court claim and ignore the subsequent CCJ letter. Bad credit will only come if it gets to the aforementioned CCJ stage and you don't pay within 28 days. |

Bailiffs don't turn up unless the PPC has taken county court action and you have not paid the county court amount if they find against you. They an't just turn up and demand payment. You also won't get "blacklisted" unless that happens.

Let's have the FULL story, including precise details of the PPC. This thread could get very long if all the experts have to wait for piece meal scraps to be fed to them.....if they can be bothered to continue asking!

Thanks for all replies guys
@cabbyman I went to Whipps Cross hospital. Drove around for ages. No parking anywhere to be seen. I saw a gap in a place where loads of other cars where parked. I looked around - there were signs - but I couldn't read from that far away. I went for my appointment. I came back and found a parking ticket. I looked further around and now find that the parking section where I was, was for staff only. It's REALLY badly signed. I googled and Whipps Cross signage doesn't meet national law requirements - but being private land... 'they can do what they want' - well this was the comment I read from someone. (Surely this can't be true?) The whole place looks like a derelict factory with pot holes everywhere. That's the story. I chose not to pay. I want to defend in court if necessary. My only concern: will I ever get a court summons that never arrives? Like do they send my Registered Post or something? If I lose my court case (if it ever comes about), then I'll pay. Let me know what you think. Thanks. |

A summons, if issued, will be sent by 1st class post to the address on the vehicle's V5C. It will be preceded by at least a Letter Before Court Claim.
Are you the RK? If so, is the address up to date? This post has been edited by peterguk: Tue, 20 Nov 2018 - 23:37 -------------------- |

A summons, if issued. It won’t, this would be resolved by a civil court claim (if it goes to court at all) not a magistrates criminal court summons (ignoring they are now not used for the vast majority of offences anyway). While you should have done it a long time ago, complain to PALS (Patient Advisory and Liaison Service) at the hospital, there is specific government guidance to the NHS about patients not being penalised for genuine mistakes, if they won’t help you escalate to the CEO of the ‘trust’, and if that doesn’t help, ask your MP to remind them of the government guidance they are required to follow. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!
