NIP Details and Circumstances
What is the name of the Constabulary? - Date of the offence: - June 2018 Date of the NIP: - 6 days after the offence Date you received the NIP: - 7 days after the offence Location of offence (exact location as it appears on the NIP: important): - A338 Wessex Way, Dean Park, Bournemouth Was the NIP addressed to you? - Yes Was the NIP sent by first class post, second class or recorded delivery? - First If your are not the Registered Keeper, what is your relationship to the vehicle? - How many current points do you have? - 0 Provide a description of events (if you know what happened) telling us as much about the incident as possible - some things that may seem trivial to you may be important, so don't leave anything out. Please do not post personal details for obvious reasons - 5:15 PM. According to the NIP, caught doing 51 in a 40 supported by video and/or photo evidence. Probably a fair cop, I honestly don't remember. First offence. Clean licence held for 11 years. - Awareness course @ £110 + 4 hour round trip (how long do these go on for, are they full day?) - Fixed Penalty. What is this likely to be? - Court hearing. Probably not worth considering I guess... NIP Wizard Responses These were the responses used by the Wizard to arrive at its recommendation: Have you received a NIP? - Yes Are you the Registered Keeper of the vehicle concerned (is your name and address on the V5/V5C)? - Yes Did the first NIP arrive within 14 days? - Yes Although you are the Registered Keeper, were you also the keeper of the vehicle concerned (the person normally responsible for it) at the time of the alleged offence? - Yes Were you driving? - Yes Which country did the alleged offence take place in? - England NIP Wizard Recommendation Based on these responses the Wizard suggested that this course of action should be considered:

Fixed penalty is £100 and 3 points that you will have to tell your insurance company about. Unless you insure with a company that also asks about SACs... -------------------- |

Fixed penalty is £100 and 3 points that you will have to tell your insurance company about. So I'm probably better off requesting the course, to avoid the points? Insurance has just annually renewed a month ago. Do I need to advise them? Thanks for the help guys. Sorry for the noob questions. I'm in unfamiliar territory here. |

A course, if offered, is almost always the better offer. I think it's the Admiral Group of companies that asks the question at renewal about speed awareness courses. --Churchmouse |

You could always check if there's a course held closer to where you live. It's a national scheme so you normally have the option of taking the course in your own county, rather than having to travel back to wherever the offence took place.

My understanding is that Dorset run their own schemes and aren’t part of the National scheme, as such it’s Dorset or nowhere.

Thanks so much for the help guys, much appreciated.
Whilst I'm on, please could someone recommend a motoring specialist solicitor, Hants/Sussex area? Sorry if asking this is breaking forum rules. Just seems like probs a good place to ask. I know I'm probably way way overreacting, but am very outside my comfort zone here, and being prepared is never a bad thing, right? Thanks again. |

Why, you won't be going to court at that speed. What do you think a motoring solicitor will be able to do?

And any court hearing would be in Dorset anyway......

I'd just like to have contact details for someone local on-hand, who I can talk to if necessary.
This seems like a good place to seek recommendations. |

Probably a waste of time - but the forum has this sticky. -------------------- RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver
PoFA=Protection of Freedoms Act, SAC=Safety Awareness Course, NIP=Notice of Intended Prosecution, ADR=Alternative Dispute Resolution PPC=Private Parking Company, LBCCC=Letter Before County Court Claim, PII=Personally Identifiable Information, SAR=Subject Access Request Private Parking - remember, they just want your money and will say almost anything to get it. |

Probably a waste of time - but the forum has this sticky. Probably. But if nothing else this has taught me the lesson that info like that is good to have around. FWIW Admins... The link to Robert Dobson @ Pryce Woodrow brings up a link to a firm called De Bretts (may still be him I guess). The link to the ABD list gives "Page Not Found". Incidentally, I sent back my paperwork today requesting SAC. I don't want this hanging over me any longer than necessary. Hopefully all will be well I'll pay what & whoever needs paying and walk away unscathed. Thanks again everyone. |
