Hello

I have never had a nip or speeding ticket in30 years of driving. I have today received something called a notice of intended protection as I was apparently doing 44 in a 30 zone. This is not something I do intentionally and have never had a ticket before. I have a couple of questions. The photo I have been sent shows a black car like mine but I am unable to see the registration. How do I know this is my car? Secondly there is a car on the other direction. How do I know that it wasn't this car that triggered the camera? Thirdly, if the signage for speed is inadequate or missing can I challenge this? Thanks in advance as I am worried sock (literally throwing up at present) with this.

The data block says direction of travel is away so rules out car travelling towards the camera

At the moment it is asking who was the driver in question at that location and at that time.

You must respond within 28 days or you will be taken to court for failure to identify driver with 6 penalty points and a fine.

There is no 30mph sign needed for road with streetlights. If you could tell the location and we could have a look it for you.

Not seeing the numberplate (registration plate) is not helping you, they can provide evidence with a better quality at court.

For that speed you would be offered speed awareness course as you have not done it in last 3 years and it would cost around £80 to £90 but no penalty points otherwise it is £100 fixed penalty and 3 penalty points.

No they won't, too fast by 2 MPH. So it will be a fixed penalty of £100 and 3 points.

'Fraid not. Speed awareness courses are only available up to 10%+9 over the limit, which would be 42 in a 30. 44 is 3 points and £100 fixed penalty.

Was your vehicle there at that time? If no, then you cannot say who was driving, as it was not your vehicle.

It looks like you were caught by this camera, it is a tough camera because there are no road markings.

You can see it is 30 mph zone coming out of 20mph zone and you can see the camera.

Thanks for this. I don't go down here very often and must have thought it was a 40 zone. I had migraine at the time and wasn't thinking straight just about getting home before I got really bad. Think I will have to find the money to pay but no idea where from! Thanks all

The application used to process the original images compress the image before publication. You can see that by the lettering on the data block at the top. These are sharp on the original. This is why you can’t make out the registration number and the police, observing the original can.
You don’t have to identify your vehicle, the somewhat compressed image is just for your information and to aid you identifying the driver. You know you were driving so job done

If money is very tight and you are on low income you can get it go to court. The total cost will be more but it will probably take over six months to get to court and you can ask to pay in installments.

The below calculator will give you an idea of the total bill.

Add 10% victim surcharge (minimum £34) + £85 costs

The £100 is the cheaper option though if you don't need extra time to pay.
