My husband has received a nip regarding 69 on a 50 lane on the m25.
From the pictures, it looks as if he’s in the second lane and the 50 limit refers to the first lane only but pictures are rather blurry.
Regardless of this, please could anyone advise what is the likely outcome of this? Eg points, fine, ban?
Our initial instinct is to respond to the nip and see whether he is offered a FPN rather than risk a further fine/ points etc.. Is this feasible? How long would you expect to wait to hear back after responding to the nip?

Thanks for any advice as we are both extremely anxious considering he drives 140 miles round trip for work everyday.

The 50mph limit will have applied to all lanes.

A CoFP should result. Expect to hear about 2 weeks after returning the S.172.

Yes, a fixed penalty of £100 + 3 points up to 75 in a 50 limit.

What makes you think it only applies to the first lane?

If there is only a fixed sign on the left and one on the right does the middle lane (assuming 3 lanes) have no speed limit?............

And if there are signs over each lane of a motorway and only one of them says 50?

It applies to all lanes, as it would in my simile (hence why I used it)....

That said I suspect it was lit over all lanes and the still photo is a victim of 'LED flicker'.

So the lowest speed limit displayed applies to all lanes, or the highest speed limit displayed applies to all lanes? (...)

We've asked for clarification. Let's see what the OP comes back with.

Thank you all for your responses.
The 50 sign is displayed above lane 1 and appears to have either national speed limit or a bright light over the remaining 3 lanes. It’s not very clear and does not really help to zoom in.

Why don't you just post a (suitable redacted) copy of the photo?
