I was reversing on a road and over a Zebra Crossing as I was going back to find parking. There was a woman with her child waiting at the zebra crossing I saw them and was going slow, and as they were stopped at the side I went past and then found somewhere to stop after. A motorist came by me furious and said what I did was illegal and did i not see the woman and child. I told him that I did and I kept on going as they were stopped on the side of the road. He said that 'he noted my numberplate'. I asked him what he meant by that and he angrily drove off.

Curious, I did some reading into this and highway code said that I only cannot cross a zebra crossing if the pedestrians are on the zebra crossing already.

Is what I did illegal and am I in trouble with getting this man angry?
It was not ideal to reverse on this road, but I was reversing slowly going into a parking place and I did not intend to cause the woman and child any alarm and had indeed seen them before i decided to proceed across the zebra crossing.

Guys my landlady got an NIP from the Police Force in question. Maybe being paranoid here and I did not open it as it is not my mail, but would it be possible that they sent her an NIP with my number plate by mistake instead of me? She is not the RK and has no relation to me other than being my landlady and having the same address.

So they randomly picked a name from the phone book and it just happened to be your landlady? Get a grip.

No she lives in the same address! That's what I was wondering.

And how would the police know her name and associate it with your car?

Fair enough, was just being paranoid. Anyway they opened the NIP, it was for doing a 40 in a 30 and not me. I had thought maybe they have known car owners in an address database or something.

Did you ever give your name to anyone so it could be added to the "car owners database"?

No I just thought they checked number-plates with addresses and cross references against known databases, so e.g. this address has these cars with these number-plates, and they just mixed the people who own the cars up!

They do have the registered keeper's name and address in a database.
DVLA look after it !

Not saying police do not have intelligence based records that may include that nasty piece work Billy Jones AKA Speedfighter AKA Landlady but really ???

There is no central ownership database for vehicles in the UK. If the police want to know who owns a car, they'd have to ask the current owner to produce proof of purchase, but frankly unless a vehicle is suspected to be stolen the police have no reason to care who the owner is.
