HI All,

My sister was driving my car with me in A406 (east to west) then going into A5 to the roundabout junction at M1. Before reaching the round about, the roud split in two parts (one going left and one straight), being led by GPS, she was not sure which one to go so went straight. at the roundabout's light, we knew we had to go left, and since this was a round about in front of us, she turned left.

Now looking at google map, looks like to turn left, we should have used the left strip of the road but there was no indication at the roundabout and light that turning left is prohbited, there is however a one way sign to go to M! which I see now.

Do you think it will result in a ticket? and what type of penalty does she get if any? There was absolutely no indication that turning left is prohibited, and one way road doesnt mean you cannot turn to your left for another way so thats why the confusion happened. Id appreciate your help!

Unless turning left was prohibited, then clearly no.

It was not prohibited but before the roundabout, on the road, it was written "M1 Only", no signs no red prohibited turn either triangle or circle, nothing and it is a roundabout so the only way is to turn left if not going straight.

If it was not actually prohibited, then it's not prohibited. Stop worrying over nothing.

If so, traffic lights have Green "must go straight" arrow plus straight on only blue circle.
And in London with a yellow box junction, almost certain to have a camera on it.

If so and recorded by a camera, moving traffic contravention, decriminalised penalty of £130 (less 50% if paid early) winging its way to the registered keeper.
No points on license

A long time ago my mother used to drive us kids from Bristol to Birmingham to see my grandmother. My mother got confused with motorway roundabouts and lanes - on one memorable trip she came up the off ramp, onto the roundabout and then sailed back on to the motorway - twice, taking us miles out of our way. It didn't help that we were all yelling, no don't do that...

My guess, based on the original post, is that the OP was approaching Staples Corner East wanting to join the A5 and missed the (admittedly short) filter lane to head round to Staples Corner West, thus ended up heading towards the M1.

There don't appear to be any obvious cameras present.
