I am currently serving a 6 month ban after totting up. This is due to be expired on Jan 15th and I believe the DVLA will write to me to tell me to reapply for my license in a couple of weeks.
I was very lucky when I got the ban as my job very much depends upon it ( I cover 45k plus miles per year) as my employer allowed me to stay on. It is usually an instant dismissal, so I know I have dodged a bullet. However, things are now becoming far more strained at work as my colleagues are having to take up the slack and I feel some of the bosses are perhaps regretting their decision.
Is it feasible that I can apply to the DVLA to allow for my license back early ? Siting that without it, I am in real danger of losing my job?
All I have been able to find is that you can apply early if your ban is much longer than mine
Any advice welcome rolleyes.gif

The DVLA has no discretion to shorten your ban, only the court that disqualified you has. However, all you've found is all there is. You can only apply for an earlier end to your disqualification if it was for longer than two years.

There is no way you can get your licence any earlier. Perhaps you could get a friend or relative to drive you about on occasions to get back into the swing and relieve some pressure on your colleagues, but above all do not be tempted to risk driving or things could go from bad to worse.

It would be an offence for you to apply for a licence while disqualified.

Really ? or is this just splittings hairs, due to terminology?
Everything I can find on the .GOV website says you can apply for your licence to be returned 56 days before your ban expires. It also states that you MUST apply for it back as otherwise you are not licensed when your ban expires.

Thanks for the replies all...
I figured that if I had mugged an old lady, put her in hospital for a while and stolen her pension, I may have been given 6 months inside...meaning I would now be out and free to do it again. Wondered/hoped the good behavior thing could apply elsewhere rolleyes.gif

But bear in mind (although I'm sure you're aware) that physical possession of a driving licence does not "trump" a driving ban. You will have (or should have) been told when you were disqualified that you must not drive until you have your new licence and the period of your disqualification is completely over.

Really ?

No, I just thought I’d post it for a laugh rolleyes.gif

(1) A person is guilty of an offence if, while disqualified for holding or obtaining a licence, he—
(a) obtains a licence, or
(b) drives a motor vehicle on a road.

Are you sure you’re not getting confused with bans of up to 56 days, after which your licence is automatically returned to you, and bans of more than 56 days, after which you have to apply for a new licence?
