Hello, I was wondering if you can help me with some advice please.

I live on busy road in RM8 area (Lodge Av). We do have parking bays on footpath (I will show you this on google maps). People do park there but i see people parking parallel to these vehicles. Eventhough if you see treaffic sign across road it suggests people can only park in marked bay (on footpath). Now i see following issues,

Flow of traffic is severely impacted.
People cannot get in and out of there driveway. You cannot see oncoming traffic
People parked in the bay have to drive all the way on footpath to nearest dropped kerb if someone has parallel parked with there vehicle
Only one vehicle sometimes can pass if there is a bus or truck at one time.
The situation gets worse in the evening when people park there massive vans and trucks on road

Link2: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.5506136,0...6384!8i8192

In the above you can clearly see road signs, people driving and people parked on the road. Link2 would show how inconsiderate car has completely blocked one way traffic. This is very common on this road.

I was wondering how do I complaint to my council. How can i make them listen to this. Do you think is there a way to write to LBBD council as they only allow complaints against dropped kerbs nothing related to road and highway.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Kindest Regards,

Either write to the Roads Dept of the local authority or your own local councillor. Given neither party is usually too clever, I'd include a suggestion as to what a resolution might look like. Added traction would ocdur if you can garner support in the street - should be easy if the 'additional' parkers are visitors/commuters, not so much if they live there!!

Sometimes it's a case of be careful what you wish for. I know of a road next to a garage, not a main road but on a back road, where the residents complained that cars were being parked outside their house, even though they had driveways to park in. The councils solution was to put double yellow lines up both sides of the street. It's fair to say the neighours weren't happy with that solution. Now, family and friends can't park at the houses.

That's an awkward situation as there are parking bays on the pavement so they shouldn't put yellow lines on the carriageway but we've seen it done.

Thanks All,

we just got a letter from council stating that they are considering to make area as CPZ. Residents have to pay fees based on emission and it will be enforceable between 0830 to 1730 to allow residents to get parking spaces. This appears to be a stupid idea as mainly all people are working during these hours hence no issues with parking its only the issue when every bring there massive vans in evening and try to park.

A CPZ still needs road markings that would stop carriageway parking. Part of it could be an RPZ, which doesn't.

A simple TMO that allows parking only in marked bays is all that is needed then they could ticket anyone parked on the road outwith a bey

Surely they'd need a s15(4) resolution, plus they'd need to change the signs to say "in marked bays only"?

Ah, but that doesn't make money for the council in the way a CPZ will.
