Hi, i was caught speeding 3 months ago and just received the letter from the court with statements etc.
When i was stopped by the police they stated on the traffic offence report slip (recorded speed - 99mph 1724m 62.13s) Even in the witness statement given by the police officer he states "After a distance of 1724 METERS the system informed me that the car was travelling at a speed of 99mph which took it 62.13s" If we use some simple math i would be going 62mph(99kmph) to travel 1724 meters in 62 secs. would i have a chance in court against this? its my first offence with a clean licence. thank you |

If it was a follow check, and it sounds like it No, it sounds nothing like a follow check AT ALL, it sounds like Police Pilot (similar to the better known VASCAR) was used. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

It’s interesting that OP has avoided answering the question about whether 99mph is at all likely to have been accurate. So we don’t know whether this is a search for a loophole knowing that the offence was committed, or a genuine belief that the equipment was displaying the wrong units and there was no offence in the first place. OP needs to be clear with himself, if not us, about what defence he is trying to run. If it was a follow check, and it sounds like it, it will be reasonably easy to resolve any mistake over units. The officer will be able to give evidence of his own speed as displayed by his vehicle’s calibrated speedo, and will likely be a persuasive witness if he says he was travelling at about 100mph rather than 100kph. apologies, been a little busy. 1. Yes 99mph is likely to be accurate as i was speeding. 2. i was followed by an unmarked police vehicle with the provida speed measuring device. 3. yes a loophole would have been great but as of now i am thinking of pleading guilty as i do not want to risk an excessive fine. |

i am thinking of pleading guilty as i do not want to risk an excessive fine. The fine would only change by about £150 for a not guilty plea (if found guilty), what you need to worry about is the circa £550 increase in costs! -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

6 points most likely outcome. A fine of around 66% of weekly earnings, costs of £85 and surcharge of 10% of the fine (min £30).

That's an amazingly good result for 99mph! Go buy a lottery ticket while you have that luck.
